Learning Process

I wish you could have the option of focussing on iOS or Android and not be made to do both. I only have android so that's really all I want to focus on right now. Unless they tie into each other somehow, I wish I didn't have to spend so much time going through the ios learning until I'm ready to learn that....But what r u gonna do right?

Trust me, watching the iOS BTU video enhanced my understanding of Android. And I'm Android not iOS. Fred

Hi @mrshwd, Welcome to buzztouch! Believe it or not, I actually think there is more written about Android in these forums because the process is so much more problematic than iOS. But the great thing is that there are also a lot of solutions as well! You've probably already discovered the How-To section of buzztouch, but in case you haven't, check out this how to get started guide I created: http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Things_You_Need_Before_You_Start_Developing_Apps_v1.0.pdf And info on how to set up your environment: http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Setting_Up_Your_Android_Development_Environment_v1.3.pdf Hopefully these help get you going. One last thing...you don't actually have to design for iOS at all. You can approach your app totally from an Android perspective, and just download the Android source code. The awesome thing about buzztouch is the design one, download for two concept, but you're certainly not required to. Let us know how we can help! Mark

It would be nice to one day so a survey of the last 100 posts. My money is on iOS users begging for help will vastly out number Android users. But that would only be because iOS is the "best" operating system ever and they need more help to make it work since they're not worthy. Fred

All I know is that I personally spend probably 80% of my time helping with Android issues. Setting up the environment...all those crazy, seemingly random error...emulators that don't work...app crash reports in the marketplace. Lots and lots of Android issues! Mark

Hey @mrshwd, Please don't let the good natured ribbing between @Fred and I discourage you from posting in the forums! Both of us are here to support you in whatever issues you might have...Android, iOS, buzztouch or just general support! We've all worked through tons of problems, and are more than happy to share our knowledge! Mark

meeeoooowwww! :-) Sorry Fred, gotta agree with Mark. Android is problem after problem after problem due to that infamous fragmentation of the OS and the non-dedicated dev environment.

Basically I'm choosing to work with Android bc that's what I have. Both my phone and tablet is Android so I figured that would be the easiest way for me to start. I'm interested in ios, just not until I actually have a device I can test my apps on. I don't want to hear there are frustrations with this os....lol imagine the intimidation I'm beginning to feel. lol Thx for the support Mark :-)

Each platform has it's issues. Starting with Android if you have the devices is advisable instead of investing in a new OS before you learn to crawl. There are more Forum post by iOS users asking for help (plus post asking for app store rejection help). Look at the forum count for categories. Besides Android users have the freedom to develop as we see fit without having to bow before an some evil overload. But I asked before with no response, so I'll ask again. What are you gonna do about Apple decision to enhance the user experience in iOS 5.01. :(read as your Buzztouch app may no longer work ) Fred

Hey @mrshwd, Lots of issues with both platforms, and 90% of them have to deal with the platform itself, and not buzztouch...so that's a good thing! And, we've all got lots of experience in getting things moving forward, so you'll find that help here is swift and generally accurate. And, of course, staring with Android in your case makes perfect sense! So, dive in, and let us know how we can help! Mark
