Android Emulator is very slow

Hello Android BTer's! I am just starting developing for Android and finding my way around. I have made several iOS apps using BT and am now trying to recreate them (from scratch) for Android. I don't have an Android device to test on yet so am relying on the emulator. I am finding that my app is very slow in the emulator... is this normal? @GoNorthWest's guides have been invaluable and there was a mention of the emulator being slow, but I just wanted to see if this is normal and will my app be faster on a real device. Also is there a list of BT v1.5 screens that do and don't work for Android? I have added Email Us, Text Us and Phone Us screen s to my project but they aren't working in the emulator...?

Hey @sepala, I think it really depends on your system. Eclipse and the Emulator are both Java driven, and that tends to consume a lot of memory. I find that on both my laptop and home PC, it's extremely slow...so much so on my laptop that I really can't even use it. But, on my Mac mini, it's much faster and responsive. Your app will indeed be faster on a real device. If you can, find somebody with an Android and give it a test...that should be part of your pre-release strategy anyway. Testing on a simulator only can be somewhat dangerous, as the simulator does just that...simulates the device. There's really no substitute for actual hardware! But, I understand your pain, as I'm in the same position - no Android device! Check out the readme file that comes with your v1.5 Android package. It gives you a rough idea of what is and isn't supported. Mark

GoNorthWest has already answered most of your question and Fred's website too will help you to know about the working screens on android devices. As far as Email Us, Text Us and Phone Us screens are concerned they wont work on emulators since there is no provision to set up your email on emulator and for the rest of the above mentioned screens they wont work for lack of network.

You can add email app to simulator. Perhaps if you add Skype you could test phone capabilities. SMS may be tested, just not sure how. Fred

You have a good point Fred. And yes i think even sms might work if we install jaxtr or some other similar app. Will give it a try.
