newbie questions

Hi Been looking at app creation and out of all the other offerings i seem to always come back to Buzz Maybe be daft questions but forgive me for asking. I have limited access to a mac so the xcode preview is a bit of a problem. Was wondering if i was to do the testing through the eclipse on my pc so i got the app as i want it - could i then do the final test on the mac via xcode when i have access. finally - if i finished the app for iphone and was happy, is the only way to distribute it via itunes (this maybe the daft question)or can they offer the download via a link or qrcode mike

No questions are dumb. Really. a) You can tinker with Eclipse on PC but only in Android. You'll have a hard time getting the iOS version the way you want it without at least running it in a simulator. You could ask for help on the forum maybe? Make the app, see if somebody will compile / test it for you and send you screenshots or something? This can get tedious so you'll need to find somebody willing ;-) b) The App Store is the most common way to distribute iOS apps. You can do a download link..it's called Over the Air Distribution but it's a bit tricky and only allowed for low volume situations like testing, or internal team apps (like a company app). Have a look at the developer.apple.com site I think they have a simple "Account Types" document listed that shows these different distribution ideas.

My two bits: Create app. Create .ipa (binary) If you have an iDevice (iPad or iPhone) consider jailbreaking Post binary on net for preview. (See my guide for details) Use Android / eclipse for tweaking the app. When you have access to Mac apply tweaks Use HTML5 for features as appropriate (can be use without Xcode or Eclipse and can be done on any device. ) iOS distribution is limited to App Store or various iOS programs unless you jailbreak, which is very appropriate if you have an iDevice you wish to use for development of the app. Fred www.MySkylla.com

Hi @emediaukcom, Welcome to buzztouch! @David covered it pretty well...that's why he's the founder of the company! One thing that I believe most people have discovered is that if you design for either Android or iOS, it'll look different in the other one! So, apps designed to look great in iOS tend to have design issues in Android. Ultimately, I think many of us end up creating two different apps, one for each OS. Consider checking out Criag's List for an inexpensive Mac mini. I grabbed one for $200, and it's served me well! @Fred - what exactly do you mean by "use Eclipse tweaking?" That implies nothing in this context that I can figure out, but I'm interested in what you're proposing. Mark

Yes, you'll need a Mac (not just any Mac), unless :see guide for details.

Hey Mike, Yes, you need a Mac, because you MUST use Xcode to compile your app. The Mac must be an intel-based model. If you don't want to buy one, there are services like Mac In Cloud that might work. Here's a guide that tells you everything you need to get started: http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Things_You_Need_Before_You_Start_Developing_Apps_v1.0.pdf One last comment...I would seriously advise staying away from the running Mac OS X in VMware "solution." It is fraught with problems and potential legal issues. Welcome to buzztouch! Mark
