Suggestions required

Hello all, My first post in this helpful forum. I'm a software tester with a very good programming skills in scripting languages and beginner level knowledge in java. I have written few android apps (just to learn not loaded into Android Market) when I was getting to know more about Android. Then off late, dropped out of this mobile app world. Now that app development bug has bit me and I have an idea for a simple game app, for my personal use. I will not be putting this out to Market. The app should do the below (a network scrabble game): - One device can be an admin and add other devices to play the game (max of about 6-8 devices). Add through QR code? - Data exchange through wifi - Each device should see the move made by the other user after every 5-8 seconds, I mean the data sync. - All moves made by users should be recorded onto DB - The app is to see how the kids react to new games. How do I go about this idea? Please suggest. Thanks.

There are lots of ways to engineer something like this. You've named a few different technologies you'll need to get your head around. Data Storage and Access, QR Code Scanning, etc, etc. If you're going to use BT to do this you'll be making a few different plugins. This means you'll need to figure out how the plugins are setup so you can make some of your own. I'm thinking you'll need a plugin for QR Code scanning...data sync....game play...admin areas. Could be more. The idea is that each plugin is a different screen type (Android Activity) that you create to do the task. None of these are easy so you can expect to have a steep learning curve when it comes to figuring out each part of the app and how it interacts with the other parts. Would love to see you pull this off ;-)

Yeah it's going to be a steep learning curve ahead. I'm determined to go with this, with guidance and help from you all :) About the QR code creation and scanning, do you have any details on how they are done? I mean can it be created with combination of first and last name? Like you said, the more I get into technical details, my head spins more :) Thanks.

I've never done any QR code stuff so I'm not sure where to advise. I'm guessing you already did some Googling?
