cannot get anything installed

ok, so i run the 'android SDK Tools setup wizard' click 'next' and I get "Java SE Development Kit (JDK) Not found" "Error: Failed to find Java Version for 'C:Windowssystem32java.exe': [2] The system cannot find the file specified. Thing is, i've downloaded and installed the JDK from java.oracle.com. I've also set %JAVA_HOME% to "C:Program FilesJava" as well as the %PATH% and I've rebooted - STILL nothing. java.exe *IS* present in 'c:windowssystem32' as well. And the trick of pressing 'back' then 'next' doesn't work either. I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit if that helps. Thanks in advance :)

Hey Jazza, Dang, was going to recommend the back then next trick! Did you try reinstalling Java? Perhaps the install got corrupted somehow. And you're sure you downloaded the Java JDK, right? Mark

thanks fred & mark :) i'll have a look at the video guide shorty, but i went to this link http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html and installed the Java SE 7u4 JDK - clicked 'download' and downloaded the 64 bit version. i suppose it certainly wouldn't hurt to re-install java as well.

Here's an illustrated, step-by-step, how-to guide I wrote on setting up the environment. I specified the exact links for the binaries that I used and know work. Perhaps this will help! http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Setting_Up_Your_Android_Development_Environment_v1.3.pdf Mark

Ok, downloaded and re-installed jre-7u4-windows-x64.exe re-installed jdk-7u4-windows-x64.exe run the command line and typed "echo %JAVA_HOME%" which is set to C:\Program Files\Java\ typed "echo %PATH%" which gives the path with %JAVA_HOME% tagged on the end ran installer_r18-windows.exe and i get the same error as before .. "Java SE Development Kit (JDK) Not found" "Error: Failed to find Java Version for 'C:Windowssystem32java.exe': [2] The system cannot find the file specified" back + next fails to do anything I've even tried the registry hack and it still doesn't work so i'm utterly stumped. This is a copy of the registry entry that the registry hack recommends for 64 bit machines [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\JavaSoft] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\JavaSoft\Java Development Kit] "CurrentVersion"="1.7" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\JavaSoft\Java Development Kit\1.7] "JavaHome"="C:\\Program Files\\Java\\jdk1.7.0_04" "MicroVersion"="0" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\JavaSoft\Java Development Kit\1.7.0_04] "JavaHome"="C:\\Program Files\\Java\\jdk1.7.0_04" "MicroVersion"="0"

i've just installed version 15 of the Android SDK and it's sailed straight through, so I guess the problem must be with version 17 maybe ?

thanks fred. well i finally got it working - i think the main part of the problem was that i was trying to do certain things outside eclipse and sort of found myself not seeing the wood for the trees. so now it's set up and i even created an emulator running ICS successfully and it all worked fine. created a project to import my test app from buzztouch and it was full of errors :) but that's for another day i guess ..

Hi Jazza, There are two guides in the How-To section that should help as well. One that addresses common Android error, and another that show you how to compile your program. Check them out...they should help! Mark

Hi Razza, I'm having the same issue that you were. Would you mind clarifying what the problem was in your case? I'm wondering what you mean when you say you were "trying to do certain things outside of eclipse". Every set of instructions seems to indicate that you should install Eclipse first, but the issue appears to be with JDK and the Android SDK. I'm not sure how Eclipse is relevant at this stage. Regardless, I installed Eclipse and then the Android SDK. According to this page: http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html .. the Android SDK .exe will install JDK for you if you don't have it, but in my case I was linked to it. I downloaded the most recent version of the JDK as you did, set up %JAVA_HOME% and made sure the appropriate link was in %PATH%. No such luck. I tried uninstalling JDK and Java, re-installed, still no luck. I tried the back/next buttons. Nothing appears to be working. I'm trying to install version 15 of the Android SDK but it keeps failing and is taking a very long time. I'm pretty certain that I will run into the same problems you did even if I can get it installed. Fred, I can't find the video on your site. I tried: MySkylla's Guide to Buzztouch -> Installing Java, Eclipse, SDK, ADT & Plate Tools. Plus Verification Tools & Tips. The video link seems to point here: http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=xtsyrKdPZVw which doesn't seem to link to any particular video. Would you mind posting a direct link or clarifying where the video is? Thanks.

Hi @Itison, Welcome to buzztouch! There are two guides in the How-To section that deal with installing the Android development environment on Mac OS X and Windows. They are illustrated, step-by-step with exact links to the programs you need. Please check them out and let me know if it helps: http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Setting_Up_Your_Android_Development_Environment_v1.3.pdf http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Setting_Up_Your_Android_Development_Environment_For_MacOSX_v1.0.pdf I'd be happy to do a TeamViewer session with anybody who is having issues! Here’s a guide to help you install Java, Eclipse, SDK, ADT & Components. 1. Download Eclipse, I recommend Eclipse Classic 32 bit version (problem with 64 bit version) simply because that’s the one I use. If we stay on the same page, you’ll find this blog more helpful. By far the most helpful video (c lick on video) It's the same link you posted above .

Hi, Thanks for the responses. Eventually I got it by uninstalling anything Java and then installing JDK 32-bit instead of 64-bit. Then when I go to install version 18 of the Android SDK, it actually detected JDK. I was hesitant to install an older version (15) of Android SDK because it seems like you will have issues when updating. Like the topic creator, I'm running Windows 7 64-bit. I still don't understand why every set of instructions I find suggests installing Eclipse first... it seems like you would want to install JDK, then Android SDK, then Eclipse. If you're having issues installing the Android SDK, it shouldn't have anything to do with Eclipse. About the video: if you try to view it on your desktop you will not see it (at least I did not, in Chrome/FF/IE). It's the same as what you see when going to m.youtube.com. I just got it by copy/pasting the querystring over the querystring to another video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtsyrKdPZVw The # part of the URL is throwing it off. Thanks.

Hi, My instructions actually suggest Java JDK first, then Android SDK, then Eclipse! And you should go ahead and try to update to the latest Android SDK, because at some point it will basically force you to. Might as well get it done now. The whole Android environment thing is super buggy and frustrating. Congratulations on making it through that part...the rest is cake! Mark
