another Eclipse / sdk query

Hi, So trying to get eclipse working and failing miserably to get the Android thing working. I've looked at some similar thread and followed some links but much of it is in a foreign language to me. which is damn frustrating as the buzztouch bit seems fairly straight forward. I got the sdk manager and the adv manager visible in eclipse window. But trying to set up the android preferences it says no targets installed when I point it to the relevent folder (hopefully this make sense and I'm heading in the right direction) I load up the SDK manager and am given a whoop of things to install (Android 4.0.3, Android 4.0 etc) which do I actually install and do I need to install, every sub item eg dcumentation, SDK platform Google API's etc) Or do I maybe I dont actually need to do any of this and there is another problem??? Many thanks Rob

thanks fred I've seen your site and much of it is a bit dutch for this luddite (and the link to the video doesn't work for me.) Whilst I was waiting I read through Mark's tutorial and done everything bar the keystores thing. I've got the following now installed: Android SDK tool rev 19 Android SDK Platform-tools Rev 11 Android2.2(API8) rev 8 (6 items) Android 1.6 (API4)(2 items) (all these show up in the Android preferences) Also installed on SDK is the Google USB Driver - no idea what that is for.. Installed Software in Eclipse : Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers Android DDMS Android Development tools Android Hierarchy Viewer Android Traceview (when I check for updates I get a problem occured message: No repository found at C:/Users/..... No idea what a repository is but it is looking at the wrong location as I moved the android folder to the root C:/ directory Just checked the Eclipse installation configuration error log and this also appears 17 times When I did a search for 'error' in the log there was only the one entry: !ENTRY org.eclipse.equinox.p2.engine 4 4 2012-05-19 12:42:26.792 !MESSAGE An error occurred while collecting items to be installed !SUBENTRY 1 org.eclipse.equinox.p2.engine 4 0 2012-05-19 12:42:26.792 !MESSAGE session context was:(profile=epp.package.jee, phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.engine.phases.Collect, operand=, action=). !SUBENTRY 1 org.eclipse.equinox.p2.transport.ecf 4 1002 2012-05-19 12:42:26.792 !MESSAGE Unable to read repository at https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/features/com.android.ide.eclipse.ddms_18.0.0.v201203301601-306762.jar. !STACK 0 Does this mean anything to anyone and is it relevant? The AVD works fine by the way so I got that bit right !!!

Send pick of your eclipse project and ask manager. Read The Android Process in my guide. Fred

Apologies again I think after reading the android process that I have misled you some where along the way! I'm still having installation problems where the Android Projects is not visible in Eclipse when trying to create a new project.

hmmm!!! ok I got it working but not entirely sure how. reinstalled both android and Eclipse and it still wasnt showing the andriod projects. out of frustration I tried to open a project anyway using Other, Android and opened a project. I realised I hadnt downloaded the latest source code that I've been playing with whilst waiting for varous installations to happen so did that again when I tried to open it again the Android Projects was there! Bizarre! I read your stuff and couldn't see anything I hadn't done previously though am still at a loss trying to understand some of the terminology and what it actually does - but then again I am a complete novice so thanks for your patience

I read your stuff and couldn't see anything I hadn't done previously though am still at a loss trying to understand some of the terminology and what it actually does This is the biggest problem. I find the second or third time things magically work because we are now familiar with the terminology and make the correct choice. Fred

Hey @RobK, Welcome to buzztouch! Is everything going OK now? If not, drop me a line: MrkFleming at gmail dot com And we can work through any issues you may be having in as non-technical way as possible! I'm even willing to do a TeamViewer session with you and show how to get things going! Mark
