opening apk file from Gmail in older Android phones

Hi everyone! Unfortunately, my emulator is not working in Eclipse (tried many ways to make it work but failed) so I'm wanted to use my phones. But I don't have new Android phones, and I think that is causing the apk file to not install on the phone. First, I got the apk file from Gmail and tried to download it in phones. I have Samsung Behold 2 and HTC Droid Eris. Is there anyway I can install the apk file in these phones? I know these are outdated phones, but I just can't afford new phones right now. Fyi, I'm currently working on Buzztouch v 2.0 app. Thanks!

Sometimes I can install via download from Dropbox on older phones when it will not install via email. Fred

Hey Fred! I tried your Dropbox idea. It downloaded but it still says "it can be installed on this phone"... Thanks though!

Hey Fred, Grace is having the same issue that a couple of you had when I asked people to install my OVFPS app via web site and sometimes email. We never got it resolved then...hopefully we can this time! Mark

Probably your phones are not compatible with the app. Which android versions are your phones having? It should be either gingerbread (2.3) or froyo (2.2) for bt apps to work on.

Hi, in your Manifest file towards the bottom try replacing with the statement below...long shot but possibly your old phones are having trouble with gps? Will help some situations if device operating system isn't too old. <!-- THE NEXT LINE IS ONLY USED IF MAPS ARE USED --> <uses-library android:name="com.google.android.maps" android:required="false"/>

Try adding .apk to SD Card (insert SD card in to your computer using adapter or use blue tooth ) then remount the SD card and navigate to the file and open and see if it will install on device. Fred

Is this a signed apk? I'm assuming its not thats why your getting a failure to install, go under phone settings/ applications/ unknown sources/ click allow You can also hook the phone up to the computer and allow eclipse to use it as a device also to do debugging.
