Pinhead replacement

Hi all -- I'm new to the maps in apps game. Apps in general, really. Question: How do I replace the red pinheads on a map with my own image? Example: I live in Washington, DC. I want to have a map which defaults to search for all monuments near my location. I would like for a different icon, lets say a tree, show up over each location instead of a red pin. Is that possible? Thanks in advance. z

iOS? I don't think that that this is possible unfortunately. I am sure that it has been discussed before on the forum but I can't find the thread. There is this one for Android: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=396ACAD038E1305F42B52ED&fid=0B19EC7C02CBDD92F12FD08&sortColumn=FT.id&sortUpDown=DESC&currentPage=1 Perhaps someone else has found a way to do it with the default BT map but for more advanced map functions I use the Google Maps API, create the map I want in a html document and then add that to the app using a HTML Document screen in BT 1.5. Here is the Google Maps API: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/ and here is the section on custom markers: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/overlays#Markers You can add any marker you want and this site has some nice ones that you can customise: http://mapicons.nicolasmollet.com/

Awesome advice! I would like to try the same thing. I have been attaching meaning to pin colors, but it would be so much better to have custom graphics for each type of pin.

S -- thank you. I'll give the Google Maps API a shot. If anyone comes across that previous forum thread on how to do this in iOS, though, please post it! Thanks z

Hi @zerofighterfive & @SusanMetoxen I have quite a bit of experience with the Google Maps API. There is great documentation provided by Google but I will post up a few of the maps I have made for my apps on dropbox and post the links up here so you can have a look at the code. Creating new maps form scratch can be a bit of a headache if you have no experience but modifying existing maps is much easier so these should help.

Ok- To integrate a Google Map into a BT app you need to create a HTML document with all the code in it then create a HTML document screen in your BT project and link it to this document. Here are a few of the maps I have made for one of my apps. You will want to have a look at the code, so if you are using Safari you need to have your Develop menu showing- go to Safari/Preferences/Advanced and check "Show Develop menu in menu bar" then click on Web Inspector when you are viewing the pages to see the code. If you use Firefox you can just right click and select "View Page Source". This one shows how to use custom markers and how to draw a polyline. There are also basic info windows on the markers too: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9874181/acmap%20copy.html This one shows how to use a GeoRSS feed (this one is from Flickr) to plot the positions of Geo Located photos on a map: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9874181/NepalGeoRSSMap.html This one shows you how to draw polygons on the map and colour the area. There are info windows too: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9874181/trekareasmap.html I have loads more if you are interested! Also feel free to ask questions. The best place to start is here: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/tutorial Then there are loads of good demos here: https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/demogallery Then for getting the Lat Long co-ordinates is easy using this tool: http://itouchmap.com/latlong.html And this one is good for drawing lines and polygons: http://www.doogal.co.uk/polylines.php I hope this helps! Good luck and enjoy!

Thanks again, S. Not entirely sure why I keep double posting... I guess I'm a forum newbie, too. z
