2.13: Apps that are primarily marketing materials or advertisements will be rejected

Even from our early discussion about the app - I was prepared for this. But, that first rejection totally stings. The 6-day waiting period adds some extra 'umph' to it as well. Moving forward.. It's an app for a local gym. Excellent photos, map, quiz the whole shi-bang. Not only that - it uses twitter/facebook to keep members updated. I believe what I have to do is have them shell out the $99, get a dev account and upload it on their behalf. Apple is correct, it is a marketing vehicle. I just don't think I have any other bag of tricks to change and make it more acceptable. Therefore, in instructing them to sign up for the acct, what steps do they take to get my binary uploaded on their behalf? Has anyone worked in this scale? I would imagine it might follow this scenario: 1) Gym pays for dev acct 2) Gym adds me as a dev (what's the exact thing they do here?) 3) I upload it again? Yup - kinda confused on the changing of the guard here. I believe Apple just wants its $99. Thank you for your insight. Such a bummer.

I don't know anything about how apple work or how much more work you want to put into it, but could you pad the app out further? Like workout routines, dietry information (the gym should have that sort of info.), push notifications to users, like sub reminders, special offers, that sort of thing? Agreed, bummer.

Interesting... you guys don't think they're looking for a dollar? I'm concerned about users getting injured trying out routines and such. Dietary info is a good call - I'll spice it up a bit. Also, on one of the tabs, I have a bit of self promotion. Should I remove that - you know...cheeze-o-rama "Powered By" Aquila198 - promoting my services as well? I've been hesitant to get the push services rolling - the parse.com integration seems pretty challenging to me. Any beginner guides out there - or is it just something you have to dive into? I wrote them back asking for any insight in the rejection.

Workout routines based on the Gym's equipment and approved by the Gym maybe? You could always put in a disclaimer. Remove your self promotion - you can always add it in later. Or make it less obvious, such as included in an 'about' screen. Push services - dive in!

Once again agree with above. Dont like to agree with him twice in a row. @Raveyd. Dalglish gone! Most unsuccessful 'Pool manager since Michael Barrymore!

That would be nice. Choices are slim without going for a big gun like him.

Wishful thinking I'm afraid. It's been a disastrous couple of years. I don't think any top managers will be tempted by the job. AVB or RDM could be interesting moves though.

Hi @aquila198 Here are the parse.com set up instructions for push notifications: https://parse.com/apps/quickstart It is really quite quick & easy to get going. Much easier than Urban Airship from what I can remember. There are also lots of threads on the forum here that can help if you run into any problems.

Hi Ian Parse is great! I am using the free version and setting up the push notifications was pretty quick and easy. Easier than Urban Airship I think. I am now trying to work out how to use their data storage which is proving more difficult! It requires some knowledge of REST which I don't have! I have also been trying to work out how to send push notifications directly from the app, rather than the parse control panel. This is possible but again uses their REST API which I am having problems getting my head around! However they sent me an email hinting that they may have a new feature coming out soon that will make this easier to implement. That would be a cool feature.

@MacApple, yes! Would be very happy with O'Neil but I think if he can keep the squad together - even Bendtner (never thought I'd say that!), get a few quid to spend, he may just settle down at Sunderland.

Just thinking out loud, If you switched your app to be a paid one, 1.99 etc, see if Apple changes their mind because they now expect to generate their 30% com, then switch back to free if accepted. If it did work, that would answer your question, yes, Apple wants more money.

Thanks @ sepla - parse doesn't seem as daunting as I thought (after taking a tour & such) @paddy - not a bad idea at all. I'm going to try a few of these concepts. Something should make them pull the trigger :)

Upon rejection, I asked the what could be altered. They replied with the following today: May 18, 2012 02:32 PM. From Apple. Thank you for your questions. While we cannot provide specific feedback for enhancements, it would be appropriate to provide additional interactivity for your app. Further relevant functionality leveraging the iOS platform would be suitable for the App Store. We look forward to reviewing your revised app.

How about adding Scringo? Adds a social element, might be a good way for the gym to communicate directly with members through the chat function, and I guess it uses plenty of iOS functions- GPS, messaging, email, FB & Twitter integration... Also do you have an image emailer in the app? I know you have a photo gallery but if you have the option to add to it that uses the camera then that is defiantly 'leveraging the iOS platform'! You can put that screen behind a login screen and give the gym a username and password so that only they can add to it.
