Apple osx machine advice

Good morning folks! so I'm steadily into my first app, I keep on discovering new cool things in buzz touch I want to add so don't think I will ever finish it :) thing is I have only played with it in android, and ideally would like it to be multi platform! being a complete apple newbie this is rather daunting! I'm hoping to source a cheap(ish) apple machine of some kind and don't know where to start! can anyone suggest a platform/device good enough to develop on but basic enough to not cost the amount of a brand new shiny one? what basic requirements do I need? is it best to go down the VM/dual boot route? thanks in advance all!

Hi Aaron, I think the CHEAPEST way for you to develop would be: OPTION 1) Hire a dev for REALLY cheap to compile your app. Then, purchase an iTouch (even used) for between $100-$300. Install the compiled app on your device, and test away. Then, when it comes time to compile and sell the app, contact your dev again, and get them to compile it using the source code and submit it to Apple for you. You'd be looking at: *$100 (if you want a used iPod) or $250 for a new iTouch) *$100 dev account *$100 for a dev with Mac access to compile you the app & submit it (although pricing will differ from dev to dev) That's $300 - $450; much cheaper than forking out $1000+ for an iMac. Although, if you plan to develop for the iPhone in the future, and make it a hobby business, either hit eBay and look for a working Macbook Pro (from the past few years), or buy a Mac Mini. You honestly don't need TOO much juice to compile an app. // J

I agree with @javooooo. My bro and I offer that service. However, if you are planning to submit more than 1 app id suggest grabbing a Mac. Look for anything that's core2duo and up. Anything below core2duo is paper weight and you won't be able to jump away from snow leopard ever. Laptop vs Desktop is your choice. You can dual boot with both. Good luck.

thanks both for your responses, much appreciated! my business laptop (I design moonfruit websites) is a windows7 upgraded to the Max etc, from what I understand of Mac mini it will effectively provide me with a fully functional iOS through my laptop hardware? is that right? if so I might go down that route! thanks again, Aaron

Cheap, you want cheap: You'd be looking at: *$0 use PC (no sound) to review tweak app. *$100 dev account (only way around us have some else submit, but that's lots of complications) *$? Have developer compile app. *$? Use macincloud compile your own. $20/month Mac mini can be used with your PC, or PC to macincloud

I'd just get a mac mini, I use one for internet and basic apps, hooked it up to all the TVs in the house, they're fast and reliable! Core 2 Duo more than enough to run Xcode. Worth the investment. In fact I got so hooked six months ago i purchased the 27" iMac. Never looked back.
