How to add buttons

Hello, as I am a total beginner to this android development stuff, Im asking you some help/advise. Im starting to make a news-isch application as a school project, and Im kind of out in the last minute here... I have the design and all figured out, but I just cant get it from paper to hardware, if you know what i mean. I want to have 4 major buttons on the homescreen, and i cant find how to do that. Someone?

Hi Sande Your first app should come with a 'Home Menu Simple' Screen, within which you can designate rows to it. For your example rows should be considered as buttons. I see you have done the BuzzTouch U courses, I think it explains in lesson 4 the best way to add new screens via the menu. Hope that helps, Aaron

Going from my experience at the start, i suggest you start with the "Home Menu Simple" with maybe a single START, which then links it to load up a Menu Button screen with x number of buttons you need. I hope that helps Omoba

Thank you guys for the responds! I will look through all the types, but are they the type of buttons that can be AS the start menu? Like 4 buttons with categories like "news", "forum" etc.?

The "Start" screen can be any screen that's not and action. A "Start" screen is known as a "Home" screen. In a non-tabbed layout you have one home screen. In a tabbed layout you can have up to five home screens. Menu (buttons) and Menu (list) are both screens and not actions. Fred

@Fred So correct me if Im wrong; the "Start/Home" screen is the first screen that the users will encounter? What i dont quite get is the differece between Tabbed and Non-tabbed layout. How can a app have 5 homescreens? Sincerely Marcus

A tabbed layout can have up to 5 home screens, the first tab is the first screen a user will see unless you're using a splash screen, then they'll see that first. BTv2.0 is basically BTv1.5 except it's built around plugins, but the framework of the app is the same (just different .xml and .java files). Plugins allow us to create new screens which are not "approved" by Buzztouch. Hence Buzztouch is saying, we'll create the best app engine (car) around, now go and modify it (make the car into a "hot rod"). So if you understand one version, you'll understand the other version. It's important to know the differences since the project file structure is slightly different. Fred

what type of layout? That's like asking me what type of car you should have. Each layout servers a different purpose. First determine what you want to do then you'll know what layout to use. But to know what you want the app to do, you need to know what's possible. To know what's possible: a. Look at other apps b. Read MySkylla's Guide to Buzztouch (Start with Buzztouch Screens) c. Read Buzztouch v1.5 Documentation d. Read Source Code (Android) in my guide. e. Read The Android Process f. Create an app. g. Create a Plugin (Ok, a bit on the advance part, but just reading how to will help you.) h. Repeat as necsssary. Fred

It's been said before, so take a few note cards and write on each card the screen you wish for. lay them out and pretend. Play around with the order. Then start building. Fred
