YouTube, Android, v2.0 - app crashes after video opens

Hello, Some of you have helped me before and I am hoping for your input again now. I am making a self-guided walking tour app and provide the user with two options: one to use a image map with links to video on youtube or the other is to use a menu list that links to the same videos. I finally finished my 10 videos and loaded them on YouTube, then created an image map with the appropriate links to the videos. The problem I am having is that with the image map option the youtube app opens and I can see the video however my phone is showing a spinning wheel that freezes up my phone and crashes the app (see youtube video of this happening here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Ai5W4MFwas). This issue does not happen with the other provided option of using the menu list with link to native app. That part works fine. I have tried changing some of the screen behaviors but it does not appear to be it (unless I have overlooked something - which is entirely possible).

I am not a video expert, however, Sounds like a memory issue witht he phone or perhaps a speed of download issue with your service... are you 3g or 4g? and how much available memory do you have? Also, are you installed on your SD card or on the internal memory of the phone.

@Fred - I started the app several months ago but for the last couple of weeks have been working on the videos so I havent touched the BT/eclipse end of it in a while. When I linked the youtube videos and created the image map/custom html screen yesterday I re-downloaded the source code to be sure I have the most updated info. @Asusoeff - I have a 4G Samsung Charge phone but where I am uses 3G. I am also using my wifi in my house and it crashes. Memory on my phone: 28GB on SD card and Internal phone:742 MB. The app itself is 2.18MB plus data and is installed on the device. New development: Last night when I tried the menu list option it seemed to be working fine (though I did not test all ten videos) however this morning it is not. The videos always play in entirety but....it crashes after the video when I use the back arrow button on my phone to get back to the menu list. Briefly I see a google page before the screen goes black and it doesnt stay up long before I get the crash/close pop up button.

honestly it sounds like a caching issue but you might try putting the app on your sd card and see where that gets you.

@ASusoeff - thank you for the input. I am willing to try anything. How do I set that up if I am in testing mode running through eclipse?

I am on my phone not at my computer, but there is a command you add in eclipse, probably need to get to command from fred or gonorthwest.... something like android installation ="auto". compile it and reload. ps doing this will stop or limit a whole host of bugs

Buzztouch (Android) had a problem that's been fixed called the Wheel of Death. Read my article in my guide. If the Source Code is older than the fix it could be the problem, or it could be install to SD card problem. (Just guessing, but fix helps either way.) www.MySkylla.com MySkylla'a Guide to Buzztouch > Eclipse > The Android Process > Wheel of Death Solution Fred

Hi Fred, thank you for the guides, I have performed the fix for the Wheel of Death and also changed the manifest to prefer external storage. I now have an error message: "This method must return a result of type boolean BT_screen_customURL.java /LocustGrove/src/com/locustgrove line 123 Java Problem" I did not change anything in line 123 and double checked that I didnt transpose my line numbers. Any ideas?

Have you updated the Custom URL plugin lately? If so the Wheel of Death Solution may be the problem . Fred

Hi Fred, Yes, on Monday I made the image map and added it to my Custom/HTML screen and saved it, then re-downloaded the source code package and compiled.

Not what I asked, I know it's a bit confusing. David @ Buzztouch fixed the Wheel of Death problem and published the new plugin to to Buzztouch site. If you update the plugin to the server hosting the Control Panel you're using when you download the Source Code the problem has been fixed. If the plugin has not been updated then you need to use the Wheel of Death Solution. I imagine most whom are self-hosting haven't updated the two plugins. If you're self-hosting you should know if you updated the plugins. If you're using a self-hosted server as a user ask your administrator. When you downloaded the Source Code only matters if the plugins have been updated. Fred

Okay, you kinda lost me on that last bit... I house the source code for the app in a public Dropbox file. My Control Panel is the one on Buzztouch.com. Would you recommend I delete the "Custom HTML" screen and rebuild it?

I reversed the Wheel of Death fix and no longer have errors. Just back to square one with the crashing.

Since you're using Buzztouch.com you have the updated plugin when you downloaded the Source Code on Monday, hence you don't need the Wheel of Death Solution. Rebuilding shouldn't make a difference. Fred

@Fred I appreciate the help. Would you be willing to take a look at it professionally? What would I need to do?
