Serious Map Issues!

Ok, firstly I guess I better say Hi to y'all, really excited about what I could potentially achieve on BT and hope to speak to you all sooner or later! My issue is this, I have a simple location map, which shows the location of a local football(soccer) club, however, when loading the page on either android emulator (2.2), or my ICS android phone, the map is not visible. It merely shows a white/grey grid, and the location pin over the top. I've searched everywhere for help and similar issues, but cant find anything online, here or google, or any of the BT orientated blogs etc. Has anyone had what they think is the same problem? I have set up a new keystore, got an API key from google, changed the appropriate strings etc but still no joy. I feel I am at the limit of my knowledge here and worry that i would do more damage than good 'trying' solutions im not sure of.... Thanks in advance for anyone who can help!

If I recall correctly, this occurred when I was building an app in BT 1.4. If you are using 1.4 I will download an old app and work through it if I can. I currently use the self hosted platform and have not tried using the map feature yet Joe

Hi Aaronus, welcome! But please don't call football 'soccer'! I'm campaigning for real football to be called football and American 'football' to be called "dressing up in fancy dress, throwing an oval object and running after it". Think it'll catch on, on this US forum? :) That doesn't help with your issue though... Forum member @Fred has got a search engine on myskylla.com, it'll search the forum better than the forum search. This issue has been posted about a number of times, so you should find some help. Alternatively, someone will post on here sooner or later.

Hi Aaron, Find your screen_map.xml file in the res/layout folder of your download package. Open it up and find this line: android:apiKey="@string/googleMapsAPIKeyRelease" Replace "googleMapsAPIKeyRelease" with the release key you got from Google and save the file. Do a Project...Clean, and rebuild your app. I think it should work now! That assumes, of course, that you have uncommented the map part of AndroidManifest.xml, and entered your keys in res/values/strings.xml. Let us know what happens! Mark

thanks mark! where uncomented is mentioned.... I interpreted that as delete the text "this section is only used when using a map" (or something similar) is that correct? cheers, Aaron

Hi Aaron, Regarding the uncommenting thing...not quite! In fact, by deleting all that, you removed the map stuff entirely! Basically, you need this line in your AndroidManifest.xml file: <uses-library android:name="com.google.android.maps"/> It should be near the bottom (where it was initially), and not have any comments around it like <!-- and -->. Anything in between those two tags will not be active. Mark

GUYS!!!!! What can I say! Thanks muchly for the help, after 2 hours of deleting, re-downloading, editing playing etc I CAN SEE THE MAP! Im having slight issues with default zoom and the like but thats all stuff I reckon I can resolve. I basically had to end up adding the same APIKey for both debug and release, then removed the commented out line mentioned above and uncommented the uses command in the manifest. The only issue I have now is that its taking ages to zoom in/out on my ICS device but im pretty sure thats because of the endless roms ive layered over each other on it :) Thank you very much for your help each and every one of you!!! Aaron ^as you can tell im well chuffed^
