I'm currently setting up a BT-server on my own OSX server. I've uploaded all the plugins by FTP (not with the Manage Plugins tool) but they didn't show in the control panel, even when I clicked on Refresh Plugins. Had to zip every plugin, and upload them with the Manage Plugins tool with the Update Existing Plugin box checked. And then the plugins appeared in the control panel.
