Merge Fields - Usable with querystring other than URL?

I am newbie trying out new things in Android using BTv2.0 and i have read the bit about appending a device location in querystring at the end of a URL. I am now wondering, could i do same, but instead of URL, i use maybe content in say localFileName?

Hi Omoba, Can you be more specific in what you mean? Perhaps give an example? The localFileName thing is throwing me a bit. Mark

Thanks Mark. I read from the Data URLs and Merge Fields narrative that to obtain location information at a given time say for instance, i may do it by "appending the devices location in a querystring at the end of the URL, so that the script on my server can then custom-process and output the location. I was simply wondering whether it also fair to assume the querystring procedure could instead be used for data stored in a file in the device itself? I hope am making sense. I am asking because i may not use a system which interroates URL where pre-existing information cas been uploaded to and stored. I intend to use data dynamically obtained by the device and stored in a file, possibly on the device itself

So, you want to query a file or database on the device itself, much in the same way that you might make a php call to a mySQL database online? Like, you want to query a file (on your device) of locations, and you'd pass it the device location? I don't think that would work for just a file. A database, perhaps. The problem is, when you pass the device location, for instance, it's usually appended onto the end of a php script...for example, getHotel.php?location=<blah>. That requires php on the server side to process. If you just pass the string into a file, there is no way to process that information. It has to be in some sort of client-server environment. Does that makes sense? And am I understanding you correctly? Mark

Yes, makes sense. What the explanation does is help me eliminate some possibilities. Thanks, much appreciated.
