Private Message Spam

Hi gang, Lots of users that have the "private message" option enabled in their control panels are getting spam messages. These messages appear to be posted by a bot, or automated system. We have spent the last few hours looking at our server logs and backend systems to determine if any user data has been compromised. We cannot find any evidence of this - this is good. This means your email address and other registration information was not accessed when the messages were automatically posted. We have disabled the Private Message option on your Profile screens until we figure out a new approach for preventing this. In the meantime, ignore any suspicious private messages and for sure don't "click anything" or follow any URL's posted in any suspicious messages.

1) All the messages were from the same "user" - the user didn't exist. We removed all the messages so you won't see them in your list. 2) We added some additional checks to make sure the user "existed" before posting the messages. This should prevent a fake user form auto-spamming. 3) We turned the Send Message option back on in profiles. 4) If you want a date, come to Monterey, we have some numbers ;-)

@ASusoeff: Aquarium, too cool! Our little beach shack is a few blocks down Ocean View Blvd. Kids and I literally walk past "the fish tank" everyday on our way to the marina. We're huge sailors, love the ocean, and spend tons of time on the water. I get a little freaked out being more than a mile or so from the sea spray! I'll for sure have a hard time next week in Chicago, major marooned, LOL. Be sure to look me up next time you're anywhere near Monterey...Starbucks on me.

Starbucks on me? Good stuff. My family live on the lake in Michigan, Pentwater. Great I'm winter and summer. Boats = good times. Kentucky being land locked is tough.

@MacApple: Yeah but you have the biggest party of the year! I've always wanted to do the Derby and never have figured out a way to justify a Kentucky trip. Kentucky, really? LOL. Had to switch to Starbucks after becoming a lightweight! Had two the other night, could barely drive home. Too funny.

Nice one. Love my 4th July on beach up north, can't beat the water. Big weekend ahead, whether I like it or not. Kentucky indeed.

I feel fortunate to live near Del Mar with a view of the ocean! We are one of the few horse ranches left with a view and ocean breeze!

@DKB1 Good stuff. Something about Kentucky with the white fence flanked fields of horses, as picturesque as rolling farmland gets.
