Very new and having issues

I was able to get through the self hosting set up... I fell that I am missing something. I am experimenting with a couple plugin (quiz and html) via ios. I have my menu set up using buttons and that works fine. However, when i set a button up to point to the html plugin, for example, I get a blank screen. I have used clean and build to try and refresh but I am still getting nothing. What am I doing wrong or missing?

Hi @Gzza80, Welcome to buzztouch! Your button actually need to point to an HTML screen (plugin), which is configured to retrieve the URL you specify. In order for what you want to work, you have to create the HTML screen, specify the URL there, and then connect the button to the screen. Is that what you've done? Mark

Thanks for the welcome! I have done that. I can see the button in the simulator, complete with the image assigned to it, but there is nothing there when pressed. I didn't do the steps in that order, however... I made the screen while in the menu screen. I will try it that way and see what happens... -Gilbert.

Hi Gilbert, You create the "Custom URL" screen from your Control Panel. You then link the button in your Button Menu to that screen, again in your control panel. Then, fire up the app in Eclipse/Xcode, and it should work. If not, then you might need to refresh the app from within your simulator. If you want, you can PM me the URL called DataURL that is near the top of your BT_Config.txt file (in your download package), and I can check to see that everything looks good! Mark

You do have to add the BT_Plugins folder to your Xcode project. Have you done that? If not, do so, then do a Product...Clean, and try to build again.

I am using the Custom Url plugin, just the custom Html/text plugin. The one with the html editor in the settings.

The Custom HTML/Text plugin requires you to type in either HTML code, or the test that you want to see. Putting in a URL, unless it's pointing to an image in the SRC code or something, won't do anything for you. If you want the screen to connect to a current URL, then you need the Custom URL screen. Ok, I was thinking that I could type code into the editor and then see the code displayed on the screen, like building an html webpage in notepad, but that is not how it works. I have to tell it to point to the notepad doc, correct?

If you click on the Source button, you can type in HTML source. If you leave it as default, you can just type in text/images/etc, and it will build the source for you. There are bugs with the Custom HTML page that sometimes cause things you have entered to be lost when you save the page. Personally, I would use the HTML plugin, where you point to your own HTML file, instead of the Custom HTML/Text page. Or, the Custom URL screen, where you can point to an already existing HTML doc. Hi Gilbert, Just check out your DataURL, and it appears to be configured correctly for the button to access the Custom URL screen. I would try this: * Make sure you have dragged the BT_Plugins folder into your Xcode project * Do a Project...Clean * Delete the app from your simulator * Run the project again, and see what happens. If you click the button and again nothing loads, can you paste here what you see in the console pane of Xcode? That's where helpful debug info can be found. Mark

The BT_Plugins folder exists but there is no info for taht specific plugin. does a new package have to be downloaded everytime I add a plugin? Also, my API seems to be broken now...

In your BT_Plugins folder, you should have all 15 currently available plugins. Is that the case for your download?

No...when you download the v2.0 package, it should come with all the plugins. Sounds like you should download again. What do you mean your "API seems to be broken?" What can't you do that you were able to do before?

Ok, it is all good now. For future reference, do I need to download the package each time a plugin is added and then move the BT_plugins folder over to Xcode? Thanks again for all of the help.

Nope. When you download your code package, it should contain all available plugins, even if you don't use them. That way they're there in case you do at a later time. Glad all is well! Thanks for sticking with it! Mark
