App updates

Hey, when an app is already in app store, what kind of updates can be made without sending a new version to app store? I mean, I know you can add and delete stuff and edit text, but can you add a new page with new pictures that are not via URL? I think not since you'd need to load them to the xcode and archive. Another question, what kind of updates made in my control panel need to have the Json file updated in xcode? Thanks

The changes made in the Control Panel are savedas JSON data in the Config file. Anything that doesn't require that it be added to the Source Code can be updated without republishing the app to the app store of your choice. Fred

Exactly. Changes in the control panel (which ultimately change your BT_Config.txt) will be fetched by your users if you have your config URL still pointing to buzztouch. BUT, you should always copy your latest BT_Config.txt contents to xCode just before you archive for submission (release or updates).

Hi Mad Rod, To answer one of your specific questions, no, you cannot add pictures/docs/files that are not via URL without adding them to Xcode and creating a new app update. I think you already understand that, but the idea is that if they are not via URL, then they have to be local, which means they must be included in the app. Mark

So in essence I can add new menus and new screens and populate these menus and screens from URLs? I want to add an Image Gallery via a Flicker photo stream to an app that is in the store, so I can do that? I want to create some Menu Lists to add RSS Feeds from a blog, so I can do that? My app is in an "archived" state, so I can make these additions and my app foundation will still be ok? Cheryl

Hi Cheryl, Yes to menus, new screens and populate from URLs! Yes to Image Gallery via Flikr photo stream for app in store! Yes to Menu Lists and RSS Feeds from blog! Yes, your app foundation will still be OK! Check out these two tutorial posts I made for information about the configuration file and JSON: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=CA595CCBE4EAD2F86FDA682 http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=8D6AA5CF54BD6CC267120B7 Hopefully these help make things a bit more clear! Hi Cheryl, Glad to help! As a result of your question, and many others I've seen lately on the same subject, my next Five Minute Tutorial will be about "Planning For App Updates." Look for it tomorrow or Tuesday! Mark
