Major differences in Android vs iOS app

Hi fellas! Ive been spending hours on hours tuning my app (iOS) and then I was happy to start the process of making an android version of it. But I must be doing something wrong - cause it looks very different, and I cant seem to grasp why and what to do. Ive searched these forums and elsewhere - but I'm stuck. Here is an image (android emulator (std WVGA) to the left, ios build on actual iPhone 4 to the right). http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10647362/android-vs-ios.jpg Anyone with some sane suggestions? Cause this was a bummer :/

Looks about right! Annoying innit? Most people build seperate apps for Android/iOS. Early days for BT, it'll get better.

Raveyd :) The icons are suddenly "rounded" - they are original regular square PNGs. Do you know whats causing that? The row BG is black no matter what I set (ex "clear" to show the BC screen instead.) The back button in the top left is missing. Honestly is this right? Cause then I'll just build my iOS app and upload that first. And start from scratch for Android when I have a some time. Thanks for your answer. Bernt

I've no idea what's causing that. Looks like there's a frame template in place or something, they're not even rounded are they? Odd. Someone will know and post. Build your iOS app, get it in the marketplace then start on Android. I only build in Android, but judging from the posts from people trying to build iOS and Android from the same project, it's a futile exercise.

If you understand the various screens and limit youself to screens that only work well with both then it's doable. Another option is to edit the config file. Recommend you read my guide especially Source Code (Android) and Buzztouch and JSON www.myskylla.com Fred

Hi Bernt, Yeah, designing for Android is SUPER frustrating in my opinion. The fragmentation of devices that Android has caused makes it very difficult to design for even just Android, without throwing iOS into the mix. Very, very frustrating, and I have had to build new versions of all my apps for Android. The back button is indeed missing in the top left. As I understand it, you have to use the menu keys. Same for the Refresh button. Icons and all that stuff change as well. When I submitted my app, it said it was supported on 1400+ devices...CRAZY! No way to design for all that. Mark

I am working in 1.5 and decided to create new and separate projects for Android. As someone suggested in the forum, I opened up two windows and cut and paste the content from the iPhone to the Android app, field by field. The separate projects allows me to tweak the content so it looks great on both devices. I am looking forward to the day when that won't be necessary, but so thankful we already have so much with Buzztouch!

Thanks for all your answers - Now that Ive had a nights sleep. I'll start tuning my mind for the Android version. And I am truly thankfull for all that Buzztouch provides, it was my own expectations that made yesterdays roadbump a bit hard. Best Bernt

@GoNorthWest, not only is it impossible to design for 1400+ devices, it's also guaranteed that the app won't work as expected on some devices. You need a thick skin on Android to put up with all the 1 star abuse!
