Want to try self hosting solutions

Hello guys, I'am an ios 1.5 user and I have done 8 apps, I would like to try self hosting solution with 2.0 I'm photographer and I have a web site called http://www.photoserge.com I have database available on that hosting service? My questions : 1. Can I install the 2.0 solution of my web site without erasing my photography website, I was concern as I saw in the install package that there is a index.php file, as I use wordpress on my site, I think I have a similar file (but not sure), and I dont want to erase my photography site. 2. Can I try it without paying 24 dollars per month, I dont have a problem with paying that if it works, and if I can easely duplicate apps which is my main reason for switching over to 2.0 3. The apps that I do have embedded videos in it, and menu list with photos, I'm still confuse if this type of plug in exist and if so where can I get them ? Because they are not in the list of the official buzztouch 2.0 plug in. TKu for the clarification. serge

You could just put BT in a new folder: http://www.photoserge.com/BT What hosting have you got? You could use an add-on domain that's hosted in your main domain: http://www.btserver.com Or a subdomain http://www.BT.photoserge.com Have you got a C-Panel with your hosting and does it allow multiple databases? If so, check out the options.

That's what I was thinking to do, but in the manual the first step says that I need to put in the root of my server, if putting it in a sub folder works, then that's great. Im on ovh and they have a panel for creating data base with my sql and I have some available, I dont know if that what you call a C panel. So you think I dont have to put it in the root ? What about can I try it without paying 24 dollars a month ? Serge

It doesn't need to be in the root. I don't know ovh, but it sounds like it'll be fine for multiple databases. C-Panel is just a control panel, there are a number of variations out there dpending on the server type. No idea how you can try it without paying! Have a word with BT perhaps? An app or two with banner ads should easily recoup the 24 dollars a month though.

Becareful when installing, someone recently over wrote their server when installing . Backup, Backup, Backup. 3. The apps that I do have embedded videos in it, and menu list with photos, I'm still confuse if this type of plug in exist and if so where can I get them ? Because they are not in the list of the official buzztouch 2.0 plug in. Not for Android Yes for iOS through Buzztouch Mods. Fred

I interpret "root level" as the root level of the Domain you will be using, not of your account on your hosting plan. I have 20 Domains, I bought a new one - $14.95/yr - today, just for Apps. I will put all of this in the directory for that new Domain. Not in a sub-folder of that new Domain, or sub-folder of older domains. And certainly not "above" the directory for this, or ay other, Domain I manage. That would create the "over-write" disaster scenario mentioned. Using the term "root" is not good, because for those of us who helped create the Internet, and have done LINUX for 15 going on 20 years, "root" goes deeper into the directory structure (technically "above") of the computer all of our websites run on, than any one particular Domain directory. My web host, Servage.net, does not use the clunky "C Panel" that many other web hosting companies use. "C Panel" just doesn't work for the side of my brain that spends much of the day creating content, that occasionally needs the other side to create JSON from SQL tables thru PHP scripts to power IOS Apps. The degree of difficulty that one faces when doing this stuff starts with a web hosting company with a clean, simple account control panel, for Domain management and SQL.

Related, if you want to skip all that, buzztouchmods.com will install 2.0 and provide hosting for you extremely cheap. http://buzztouchmods.com/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=8 Best of luck! David.
