I use photshop too. If you cannot afford it, you could go with banner maker pro. I used that for a long time before i finally broke down and got photoshop

I use photoshop as well. I used Gimp (free) before. It is a bit like PS and will work well for making icons.

Photoshop generally, some decent free solutions out there as well. My PS is 4 yrs old but still does the trick. You can pick up older copies if you look around.

For advanced image editing and manipulation you can't go wrong with Photoshop, yes it is pricey but is far more feature rich than Gimp. it's slicker and (while both can be tricky to get into) has a slighter easier learning curve for doing the basics. If you are just looking to do icons and don't need the advanced feature set and vast community support of PS go with gimp. My tuppence worth.

I like free don't get me wrong, but, for myself the idea is to make money with these things, which means i want the slickest thing out there. Check out my apps, heck just check out the feature art and splash screen at the "guide ot safe scouting" on Google play, and you will see why Photoshop is the bomb...and I do not use even 1% of the features on it. However, all that being said...DO NOT go spending 1000s of bucks to sell $2.99 apps. I also build websites and do some graphice work for folks here and there...i can "justify" owning the "cadillac". Start small, make some bucks and make the venture pay for itself. Evidence? I STILL have not bought a MAC so that I can build my apps in IOS. These suckers need to show me what they can do in google play first. my 2 cents to match MacApples..tuppence. :-) Worst case senario Cameron, I'll bet somebody here can do a bit of artwork for ya for an icon, splash and even a couple of screen shots for the market for a couple of bucks. Good luck with your project. Let us know how it goes.

ASusoeff is right CameronW, if you ever got stuck there would be someone willing to show off some image skills and Mark is omni-present and knows more than anyone else on here about BT. Seek and ye shall find, knock and someone will fire up some images for you. Speaking off which, off to fire up ol' trusty CS3. There is work to be done.

I only wish I knew how to do good graphics! I'm one of those guys who has amazing images in his head, but that's where they stay! Perhaps somebody out there who is knowledgeable about that stuff could set up a small business here on buzztouch. I've been trading BT knowledge for graphics help, and it's worked out fairly well! As you well know Mark the community is growing - largely down to you always being around to help - maybe start a thread section for skills trading.

Love the trading idea. Fill your dev profiles and we'll see what we're all good at. Maybe organize into categories of skills. Dunno. Great idea!

For icons I like the free online Android Asset Studio. You should use Chrome to access. http://android-ui-utils.googlecode.com/hg/asset-studio/dist/index.html Nice and easy to use.

Thank you everyone who has mentioned software to use. I have downloaded gimp, going to play around sometime soon. I would love to have photoshop but i do not want to buy it for my Mac Book Pro and then again for my iMac once i get it. I did download photoshop and fireworks as trails. I am also going to download some of the other software people mentioned. Love the idea of the skills trading area, would be very useful. I shall update on how i get one! Thanks Cameron

Can you make apps with an iPad? I can't seem to attach icons! Or do I need to make them in photo shop?
