blank white screen in simulator

I just downloaded the source code for my latest project tonight to test on the iPhone simulator and I'm getting a blank white screen. I have a splash screen setup as well as a global background image but nothing shows up. (I do briefly see the default.png black screen that is in the BT_art folder flash for a second before the white screen when opening the app) I do however see my icon on the home screen of the simulator and it looks fine. This is a very simple app with a map screen, a few list screens and several text/html screens. I'm using Xcode 4.3.2 with a Buzztouch v2.0 app. Any insight is appreciated here, Robert

Couple things to try. 1. Did you include the splashscreen file in the xCode build? 2. After you created the splash screen page, did you add it to your BT Theme?

Stobe, I definitely added to splash screen to the theme. Not sure what you mean specifically by adding to the Xcode build. I have three other published apps of which one has a splash screen. I never encountered this type of error before. The home screen menu (list screen) should show up but it doesn't. I changed the layout type to "tabbed" and inserted the home screen link as the first tab and the button does show up at the bottom of the screen but it doesn't do any thing when clicked....again very strange. The only thing I can think of is that it's an issue with the html in one of the many text screens. Thoughts?? Thanks

I'm having the same exact issue. Any help would be appreciated. My BT 1.5 apps are working just fine - its just the 2.0 apps.

To elaborate, when I added Tabbed Layout screen, I can see the title of those tabs in simulator or on my device, but I can not see uploaded iCons and the rest of the screen is still blank white. Any suggestion?

These types of issues (no icons) are always going to relate to the imageURL or imageName for the icons in the JSON data. In other words, were is the app looking for the image? If image URL's are being used, do the URL's load the icon (check the URL in your browser). If imageNames are being used, have the images been added to the project after downloading the source code? For screens that don't show up, have you added the plugins to the project after downloading the source? The instructions that come with the project explain this. If you're unsure how to add things to the project after downloading the source code) you could see this from the How To's: http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Adding_Files_To_A_Project_v1.0.pdf It's a matter of understanding how the JSON data describes the apps behavior and it's resources.

I guess it is not the issue. Even before adding any photo to the project, the issue raises. Let's say I have a simple menu only with 5 sub menus. No photos, no other type of plugins used. When I download the sourcecode and try to open it either with simulator or on an actual device, I can only see a white page, nothing else. I can not see the menu or other pages.

@aphtab: OK. This tells me the apps "first screen" isn't loading. What should load as the first screen? The Layout tab in your control panel is used to set this. For non-tabbed apps it's ONE screen. For tabbed apps it's up to 5 screens. Also, what does the output console show? The output console will show you what type of screen it's trying to load and an error message if it could not load it.

If I use non-tabbed, it shows a white screen only If I use tabbed, I can see only tab names. No icon and the screen is white again. No error message in out put. I can transfer the app to device and it is exactly the same on iPhone...

@aphtab Same thing happened with my first 2.0 app attempt. I got frustrated and recreated my app as a 1.5 app and haven't had the time to go back and troubleshoot.

Ok, then what type of screen SHOULD be showing. The one that is white. I'm asking because it does sound like it's loading the home screen (s) but that screen is displaying as white. The output console shows you what type of screen is used as the home screen. If the JSON data says load a BT_screen_menuSimple as the home screen, then you'll need to determine if that screen is loading or not. Sounds like an issue of the app not finding what to load in your project. The only way to know what's happening is by looking at the output console, in detail, to determine what's happening.

@david If I run into this again on the next app which I hope to be a 2.0 version, will refer back to your comments for troubleshooting. Hopefully some of the other users can determine the cause of the errors and report back. Thanks for your comments and support! Rob

I just looked at the console output from one of the apps in this thread. For sure it's an issue (in his case) where the plugins are not included in the project. "Cannot load view controller" messages in the console are the clue. The plugin's folder you download (included in your project source code) must be added to the Xcode project or the app won't know what view controllers to load. One of the BTU videos covers this ;-)

Hi, I'm new here, but hit the 'white screen' issue on my first attempt - then went back an re-watched the Learning Path videos. As noted above, it is the Plug-ins which caused my problem (actually, the lack of said plug-ins...). In LP video 3, you see the Plug-ins dragged from the finder (downloaded zip file) into the Xcode project (within Xcode)... (at 6:35 approx). re-run in Xcode and my simple home-screen and menus appear... Hope this helps.

Yes, my issue has been solved too with the same solution. Thanks Dave!
