Making an app available offline

I have a buddy who commented that my app does not work "offline". Since my applications thus far have to do with the boy scouts, and boy scouts spend lots of their time out in the woods where there may or may not be phone service, how do i make all the information download to a person's phone so that it will be offline? Or am i not understanding the process?

I assume you are referencing online docs and sites then? If you use HTML screens that have to call out to the web you'll need to have them contained within the app. Have a look at these threads: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=0F8DE87A949294402DB5F73&status=&searchInput=offline&sortColumn=FT.dateStampUTC&sortUpDown=DESC¤tPage=1&doViews=1 http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=37AEE1DAEA72B1B46C1BB0F Best of luck.

Hi MacApple, You mean to say that if we create html files on html editor and then place those files in bt_docs folders we do not need to get online to call those files?

That is correct. Those files will form part of the uploaded package and reside within the app.

Thanks a lot, MacApple. I usually used to create custom text/html within bt and thats why despite taking my app offline it always needed to connect to internet or else it would show the required file needs to be downloaded error. I created an html file using html editor and tested it. now it works well offline too. Thanks again.

I really appreciate your help. I have another question for you. My app doesn't require any permission for location or camera function. Similarly no video or audios file are required. Would it be okay if, i delete java files relating to BT_screen_locationManager, Screen_audio, imageEmail, imageUpload, map, quiz, rssReader, settingsLocation, video from the source dropdown in eclipse and from android manifest and also delete those folders from source code? This might help me in reducing the app data.

Sorry, not sure on that front. I've not played in eclipse for months, been iOS solely recently. These files are pretty lightweight so not sure how much space you'd save. Maybe start a new thread and ask that, one of the Android boys will jump in.

Actually at the end the size of the app with all those unused files comes about 3mb and without them it would be less than 1mb considering i use bt 1.5. I will open new thread. Thanks a lot.

Wow, quite a difference. I always remove a few things in iOS builds for same reason. Good luck.
