Dead splash screen related link

I want to set a splash screen for my app and when I go to the splash screen option for the theme of my app, I see the following: "To show a splash-screen when the app launches, enter the nickname of the splash-screen you already configured in the Manage Screens and Features list. Leave this blank if this theme does not use a splash screen." The 'Manage Screens and Features' part of the above text is a link and it looks like the place I would go to set my splash screen up for my app. But the link leads to an error message that says the page doesn't exist any more. Is there a work-around for this or do I have to wait until this link gets fixed?

OK, here's what you want to do in your control panel: * Click on the "Screens" link * Click "Add New," give it a nickname, and select Splash Screen, then hit Add. * Now click on "Themes," then click on your theme name. * Click "Splash Screen," type in the nickname that you gave to your splash screen, hit Save. Bam, you have a splash screen! (I do see how that other link failed...I'll notify BT about it). Mark

Still not seeing my splash screen show up when the app is launched. By reading this: "Use an Image File Name or an Image URL - NOT BOTH. If you choose to use an Image File Name (and not a URL), you'll need to add the image to the Xcode or Eclipse project after you download the code for your app. The Image File Name value you enter in the control panel must match the file name of the image in your project. Example: mybackground.png. Do not use image file names that contain spaces or special characters." am I to assume that I need to add my image file name into one of the files in Eclipse in order for it to work? If so, where do I add it?

Yes. If you are using a local image (vs. one you link to via a URL), the image needs to exist in your res/drawable folder. Image names need to be all lower case, with no special characters or spaces. After you add the file to your project, make sure you refresh the package in Eclipse. Here's a doc that might help: http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Adding_Files_To_A_Project_v1.0.pdf Mark

Just a question about where to insert something into code. This is the configuration code for my splash screen for my app as taken from Buzztouch: "BT_themes":[{"itemId":"235DB74037FC5683DCCC1C3", "itemType":"BT_theme", "itemNickname":"Ag-Chieve Theme", "splashScreenItemId":"B62D89721D3810CDD2B2F0C", "splashScreenNickname":"Splash Screen", "statusBarStyle":"solid", "navBarStyle":"solid", "toolbarStyle":"solid", "backgroundColor":"#FFFFFF"} I have my splash screen set up on Buzztouch v.2 to pull an image file for the screen and that file is in both the BT_docs folder and the res drawable folder just for good measure. However, as you can see in the config code, there is nothing about a background image in regards to the splash screen. So, my question is; where would I insert the name of the background image file for my splash screen? I had done it before by putting the file name in one of the strings or something but then it also popped up on a screen that I didn't want it to be so that only kinda half-worked. And then for unrelated reasons I had to scrap my project in Eclipse and re-download the config file to start over but now I can't remember where it was that I had inserted the file name. I'm no code expert but I am comfortable working with it so please feel free to get technical with your response. If I could just insert the file name directly into the config code and tell it where to pull the file from, that would be perfect (which I am assuming is possible). Thanks.

Check out the documentation for the splash screen JSON...should give you what you need! http://www.buzztouch.com/docs/v1.5/screen_splash.php Mark

Thanks again, Mark. It turns out that I had copied the code in my message above from the 'theme' part of the JSON instead of the specific 'splash screen' portion of it. In the 'splash screen' portion, it did have the image name to pull. This morning I went in and poked around in the code on Eclipse for a bit but didn't touch anything (aside from putting my Google map api back in place). I just stared at it really intently and muttered under my breath. And when I refreshed and re-ran the app on my Galaxy, the splash screen was there with the image in place. So ... naturally I have to assume that staring intently at the code and muttering under my breath is the key to successful app development.

Yep, I think you intimidated it into working! Great job! Mark
