Eclipse does not show a Run as Android project option

I have an AVD running and I have my Galaxy S II connected via USB and all the drivers for it are installed on the Windows 7 64 bit OS I'm running but Eclipse (classic) still doesn't offer an Android project option under the Run as menu. The instructions that come with the app zip folder from Buzztouch simply say that I should choose run as an Android project as if this should automatically be an available option. Are there steps not included in the instructions that I'm missing? Thanks.

Hi, So, you've already imported the project into Eclipse? Did you do it via the zip file, or unzip and then Import as I show in my document? Either way is fine, I just have had more success using the Import and pointing to the unzipped folders. If you've managed to get your project into Eclipse, and there are no errors (Warnings are OK), then you should be able to run as an Android project. In Package Explorer, I right-click on the project, go to Run As, and then select Android Application. It should be there if you've been able to get to this step! Mark

Hi, I brought it in yesterday and I think I unzipped and imported the app. In any case, it's in the project explorer. When I click the Run as options, I get the options of Java Applet, Java Application or JUnit Test. There's no Android application project option offered. It doesn't seem to matter which folder I highlight in the explorer, either.

Do you have Android Tools installed? Open Android SDK Manager, make sure the Android Tools option is checked at the top (as well as the two sub options), and that they are installed. If they weren't, that's likely the issue. If they are, can you send me a screen shot of your SDK Manager? MrkFleming at gmail dot com. Thanks! Mark

Just thought I'd post an update for anyone other noobs experiencing this same problem. I did not have the Google APIs for the Android SDK Manager downloaded for Android version 1.6 and 2.2, which are apparently the ones Buzztouch uses. Also, once I go those installed I needed to download and install the Android tools plugin for Eclipse. A big thanks to Mark for the help. Out of all the Buzztouch U lessons to get going, I submit my vote for getting the Android lesson finished as quickly as is humanly possible. It will ostensibly save a metric ton of frustration for other noobs to be walked through all the stuff that needs to be downloaded to even start on a project. I hope I'm at the part where I can start having fun with this developing stuff now.

HIya I have just read the above, and i have a similar problem, although slightly different - i am a newbie. I have Android, on a 32bit windows. I have installed eclipse indigo with python (PyDev plugin), and also have google app engine. I have unzipped my test app successfully. But, when i try to run it using Run --> Run As ---> I get Java. I was hoping to get Python Run. Am i missing something? I am a bit confused where i have gone wrong. Python is of interest because everything i read up as in tutorials, is to do with python, for now. Cheers

Hi, You can't run your buzztouch app as a python program...only as an Android program. You need to install the Eclipse ADT Plugin in order to run it as an Android program. You would have to rewrite all your buzztouch project files as python instead of Java in order to do what you propose, but they would still not run on an Android device. Mark
