Testers for meditation themed Android App based on BT 1.4?

Hi all, I'm hoping a few people might have the time to test out this app I created for the company I work for- just to confirm that it installs alright and the basic functions seem to work. Here's a link to it: http://bwebeta.com/dl/medpallite_beta_0.2.apk We're going to release it for free and ad-free just as a demo- but, before subjecting it to user reviews in the Google Play market, it'd be great to get any extra eyes on it and make sure everything is on the up and up. Thanks a ton in advance to anyone who gives it a shot!

Sorry, I hit refresh on this after posting it, which apparently re-posts the message. Doesn't appear to be a way to delete a post, but any mods can feel free to delete the second one. My apologies!

I loaded it up on my emulator, since I don't have an Android device. I very much like the layout! Very clean, and the colors are soothing. I did try and load one of the sessions, but it failed to load the video for some reason, and then stayed in an infinite loop. This is probably due to my using the emulator. Everything else I tested seemed to work just fine. Looks like a very nice app! Congratulations! Mark

Thanks so much, Mark! I seriously appreciate that you took the time to give it a look, and I'm very happy to get such positive feedback and hear that things are looking good from someone who knows their stuff as well as you do! I've had that same issue in the emulator, actually- so hopefully that's all it is. Glad you liked the layout though, and that everything else seems to be working here. I owe you a big double thanks because the guides you wrote for BT were a gigantic help during the process of developing this app. You did an awesome job with those, and it was really good of you to create them for the benefit of this community. Again, thanks a ton for everything!

Very nice app. The first time I go to a session it locks up and I have to exit using my Home key. It said it couldn't play the video, I clicked OK and it repeated till I exited the app. It that a video or audio screen? BTv 2.0? When I go back into the app, no problem. It didn't appear or request an update. I cleared the cache and the problem repeated. Perhaps an updated Config file would fix that. Fred

@Fred - Thanks so much for taking the time yourself to try this out! Very much appreciated! I'm glad you discovered this issue too and could pass it along- this is exactly the sort of thing I wanted to find. It's a video screen from BT 1.4 actually- I started developing this before 1.5 was out of beta. But, I know BT 1.4 is based on an older Google API- could that be part of the issue here, in your experience? @GoNorthWest - Thanks a ton again, and for asking some good follow-up questions too! I've installed the app on 2 devices myself without running into this issue, and 2 of my co-workers have been able to do the same, also without seeing this problem yet. But with all the variations of the Android OS that are in use, I'm guessing that there are issues that would pop up for some devices but not others. Thanks again to both of you for helping me weed this one out!

Yeah, that's one of the issues I have with Android...so many devices running so many different versions of Android, that it's literally impossible to test them all. My thought would be that if you have a representative sample, and it checks out OK on most of them, then it's probably safe to release, knowing that some customers may complain. It's a gamble with Android I think, but I don't know any way around it. Mark

nice little app. i gave it a quick test run on a droid device running Gingerbread 2.3.4 all the basics seem to work. what audio/video player are you using? my only gripe would be that it's very dependent of being connected to the internet. if you try to load a session and you're not connected to the internet - it just hangs on the "Loading Session" screen no time out or way to escape that. i always like to test apps on a device not connected to see how they behave. and drop my wifi when running it to see if it crashes, etc. and perhaps a Back button on the screens? my phone has the 4 standard buttons built in so i can navigate the app. - but newer touch screen devices with no buttons - they might have difficulty navigating the screens. Ohm my!

Problem with a v1.4 app is that is HAS to be connected to the network in order for it to work. Can't take it offline like a v1.5 or v2.0 app. That's one drawback for that version. But, once a resource is downloaded to a device, it should be cached for future use. Mark

@GoNorthWest - That sounds like a really solid perspective, thanks! Seems like it's going to be key to keep a close eye on user reviews when we are able to get this in the Google Play market- sounds almost inevitable that someone on some device is going to run into errors. Still be nice to minimize the chances of that happening as much as possible before it does go live. @ATRAIN53 - Thanks a ton for your time testing this! Really appreciate that, and it's great to get another confirmation that it's at least installing and the basics work! It uses Android's built in audio player- I think it's just called "AndroidMediaPlayer" in all the documentation. You make a really fair point about the internet connectivity- unfortunately, like GoNorthWest pointed out too, I'm stuck with it for BT 1.4 - another factor is that the audio files for this app are 15 minutes each, so they're huge- 12 MBs or so each. We thought an app of that size might discourage a lot of users from even checking it out, if we didn't build it to stream them. That's a great point about the back button on the screens too- thanks for mentioning that! And thanks much again to everyone for the feedback and ideas!
