Do As I Say, Not As I Do

Ok, so here it is. If you wanted to update your IOS device software to version 5.1 and plan to test on that device, but are still running snow leaopard OS, hold off on the update, because it wont work. My Xcode worked perfectly fine as a test device with my iPhone 4 running version 4.3, until i decided to upgrade!! I can no longer test from my device. You need to download Xcode 4.3.2 (1.6 GB Upgrade)to recognize IOS 5.1(Good luck getting that from the AppStore). Why cant Apple just let it be, 4.2 worked fine. Just when you upgrade from a lower version of Xcode, you have to do it all over because apple doesn't think of the headaches they are gonna cause others by constantly making changes. Anyways, I hope my rant saves someone the grief of going through this.

Hello, thank you for sharing. Two things: - I have upgraded, all is fine - What is the great deal about upgrading XCode ? The download is long perhaps, but just launch it, and 1h later its done.

I was in the same boat, had to get Lion, then upgrade Xcode. bit of a pain, but having Launchpad on Lion is nice. Much easier to launch applications from RDP on the iPad now. Jim

The upgrades are what separates us from Windows users. Do you remember the days of super long start up times because of all of the anti-virus software that had to load and search for viruses etc. I'm more than happy to spend the $29 to upgrade to a new version of OSX every now and then if it means that I can stay away from Norton and all of the other anti-virus software that kills computer performance. Sure there are a few inconveniences involved but to me its worth it. JMHO :-)

All I know is that my MacBook Pro is 5 years old with no problems and starts up just as fast as the day it came out of the box. I couldn't get a Windows box to last more than 2 years and several harddrive wipes.

If I had to add my say to this conversation, I would promote UNiX, and more specificaly Linux. Having all three OS (Windows XP, OSX Lion and Snow Leopard, and Linux Cubuntu, Ubuntu, Tutubuntu and RedHat), I am sure that all three are completely different, and neither one is better than the other. Let me explain: - Mac OSX: Very esthetic, quick to use, user-friendly. Very good for Media. As for the rest, quite terrible... - Windows: Slower OS, and less interactive. Nothing is instinctive. Once you "dig deeper", Windows becomes a very powerful tool: alot of dedicated software, more complexe options etc... Its also terrific for gaming - Linux: THE best operating system for: • Programming / Scripting / Learning how-to. Since all is Free and open source, you can learn from ithers easily. All the tools are there • Quick jobs. Looking up a very rapid Google search is quicker on Linux than Mac. • an excellent all rounder. • Terrible in gaming / media. As you can see, from my point of view, Mac = Media Windows = Work (Specific) / Gaming Linux = experience computer workers.
