Refresh App to see correct configuration - iOS

Hello, I recently had an app approved for the App Store. The problem I'm having is that upon initial download, the first time they open the app it displays the very first configuration I ever created. The background image and icon size look just like the first day I created the app even though I have spent a month since then changing the appearance. A "Refresh App" displays the app the way I currently have it configured and everything looks great. Where is this "old" configuration stored and how may I get rid of it? Thanks much!

Hi AnderNathan, The "old" app you see upon initial download is derived from what you submitted to Apple. This can happen if during development you load your project into the simulator and make some changes. The updates will refresh on your simulator and device fine, but you are still basing your app of that original "old" config data. There are two cures for your issue. One is to update your config data before submitting your app to whichever market it is headed to. The other is repackage your app with the latest config data and re-submit it as an update to your app. Both will involve either re-downloading your package from buzztouch, or accessing your apps config data via the core properties screen, copying that information, and rebuilding the app with the latest data.

Thanks Parker, Just to make sure I understand you right, the reason I see the original screen is because that was the only time I downloaded the code from Buzztouch? All of the changes I made were through Buzztouch console without re-downloading the code? If that's the case, I was going to need to submit an update soon anyway so not a big deal there. Thanks for the explanation and I will report the result. I appreciate it!

Yeah you basically got it. Your compiled package that you upload to any market is based off the config data and other files that you download from buzztouch and process through either xcode or eclipse. When you refresh your simulator or an actual device, they download an updated config file, but that doesn't affect your project download from buzztouch. That will need to be manually updated, or re-downloaded before you submit your app. This document from our "How To's" section may help make that idea a little bit more clear: http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Understanding_App_Refresh_and_Offline_Apps_v1.0.pdf

I also have an Online vs. Offline guide found at www.myskylla.wordpress.com Be careful about re-downloading your source code, you may write over all your previous source code modifications. Generally it's a better practice to just update the config file. Fred

A clever way is to make your app with an "Update Me" icon on the main view, download, and build, and submit that. Then, go into buzztouch and change the app to whatever you originally wanted. When people download it, they will be greeted with the "Update me" icon, and then click the refresh button to update it, giving them the app you originally wanted.
