Map blank when exporting signed app BT V1.5

I am stuck and I am sure I am just missing something obvious but I just can't work through this issue. 1. I have created a Google maps API for the debug area of the strings.xml file using the default keystore MD5. 2. I have created a Google maps API for the Release area of the strings.xml file using my newly created release keystore MD5. 3. I have edited the BT_scree_map.java line 590 code. 4. I have edited the screen_map.xml file to "android:apiKey="@string/googleMapsAPIKeyRelease" (or back to normal if debug="false") 5. I have updated my manifest.xml version code and version name every time I export another attempt. debug=true Success! I am able to run the app on both my device and in the emulator. Map works as expected. debug=false I export the app as signed. Exports fine. Install on my device fine. Map is blank. Pinpoints are there. Stumped. Thanks, Rich

Already read, researched, and followed your excellent guide. Went through it twice. Same end result. Odd: when I RUN the app and install it on the emulator... works just fine. Still no go when signed and installed to my phone. Rich

Tried a couple of devices... tablet and 3 other phones with different flavors of Android just to be sure. Still no go. Rich

Have you exported the .apk after you made the changes. Fred

I've had the same exact issue lingering on a BT 1.5 APP for Android as well. Figured it was simple thing i missed too. I read Freds guide a few times, re-watched David's video as well. Tinkered with all the settings, made sure GPS is enabled on the devices, etc... It works like a charm in the simulator. (and no issues i my BT 1.5 iOS app) but on the device itself i just get the pin points & grey tiles. Right now when my testers are pointing out 'the map doesn't work' im telling them it's a device GPS bug i'm still working out....... I've also noticed on my BT 2.0 iOS app that the map initially launches with grey tiles. When you touch the screen then it loads the map tiles. Hoping to get that worked out as well.

Fred, Yes. Exported the .apk but always same result. All other functions in the app work but no map. Rich

Success... or at least I believe it to be a success. After hours of trying various combinations I made one modification that appears to have worked. FILE: res/screen_map.xml I changed this line android:apiKey="@string/googleMapsAPIKeyDebug" I added my Google Map key directly rather than use the string. android:apiKey="oU817Udklk_XXyccwexxxxxxxxxxxetc" Debug = false, signed, exported. Works just fine. Very odd! Thank you to everyone for your help. Rich P.S. Fred. Will still send code if you want to figure out why the string won't work but the direct entry will. Advise. :-)

I don't think the direct entry worked so much the modification made it not work as it didn't interfere with the release key. Try not entering the debug key. Should give same result. If you try this please post result. Just a thought. Fred

I'll send over the app code in a few. I was already thinking what you thought so I removed the debug map api key and it still works so it's obviously NOT using that key. Is there a way to see WHAT key it is actually using? Rich

If you have a release key, it's using the release key otherwise nothing should show. Is it still working in the emulator? By removing the Release key you should have nothing on the device or the emulator? Fred
