having problems with menu buttons in android

I've been very happy making iPhone apps but figured why not do the droid version as well so for the past week or so I've been playing around with eclipse and today just bought myself a cheap samsung admire to play with. At any rate from what I've gathered it seems I'm better off forgetting about the config.txt file and just messing with the src files themselves, correct? Because no matter what changes I made on the buzztouch panel the app itself didn't change when refreshed. I've also noticed that the image quality on this phone is crap compared to my iPhone. moving on... I'm starting with my home screen containing 9 buttons. I can not for the life of me get this screen to prevent scrolling even though whenever it says "prevent scrolling" I set the value to "1". And for some reason the text labels are SO FAR away from the buttons and I can't fix this so I can't get them all on the screen at once. See image below for better idea. Any thoughts?? http://erresapp.com/images/droid.jpg josh

and speaking of image quality, does android use the files at smaller resolution? when I email myself the apk file its around 10 mb yet when I go to delete the app it says its only 320 kb, how is that possible?

From what I have found out about the dark side is that what an app appear like in the simulator in Eclipse can be variable to an actual device. I would advise getting a cheap android phone for development. I may be wrong though as Android to me is a welcoming as Syria is to a Amnesty human rights inspector

Read the Myskylla's Guide To Buzztouch, in particular read: The Android Process, Menu (Buttons) www. myskylla.wordpress.com Are you trying to use the same Buzztouch app for both? Unlikely, you'll be able to, many have tried, many have failed. Many more will try, operative word is 'try'. As for .image quality, if you design for iOS and implement in Android, you'll get about the same quality as if you design for Android and implement in iOS. Fred

Regarding file size, did you allow 'Install to SD Card', idea so the 320 kb is what remained in phone memory. Fred

Marko- I did get an android phone to test on so not just using the simulator. I am trying to use the same buzztouch project for now but know that I will need separate settings for the two. Once I find what works best for each I can just save that info, shouldn't be a big deal. At any rate I noticed the app was saving to the phone by default, not the SD card. When I moved it over the size now said 10 mb but image clarity isn't much better. maybe it's the phone. I've spent two hours now on google and these message forums trying to figure out away to prevent scrolling on my button menu. There are a few posts a couple months ago about scrolling on list menus but even Dave said he wasn't sure. Has anyone figured this out??? Josh

Not to be contradictory but... Every app I have published, 12 I believe, I have published both iOS and Android for each and with little or no tweaking between the two. With that said I purposely left out things that didn't work well on both, keep it simple ... I got a Xoom tablet as a test device. Pretty cool machine. Anyway, I digress. Not sure what version you are using but it looks like your theme-->button size-->button margin might be the culprit. Changing the config file should change the app unless you disconnected it from the panel. I'd figure that issue out before anything else. Like the app by the way! Tim

For some reason changing the config.txt file does change somethings (icon size) but not others. For example for the background color of list menus I had to go into the menulist java file and change it manually. And even when I get the icons the way I want them if I save the updated config.txt file and reinstall the app its initially all messed up until I refresh. Android is frustrating! I'm still having issues with scrolling and general layout. For some reason on my home screen there is a bunch of space not used at the top so everything is pushed to the bottom: http://erresapp.com/images/and1.png That in itself isn't a huge deal I guess. Is there a way to make the navigation bar thinner? It's twice as big as it probably should be. The home screen doesn't scroll down but does scroll up for some reason: http://erresapp.com/images/and2.png No way of preventing this? Thanks for everyone's help!!! Josh

I don't experience the behaviors you describe on Android. Something's not right.
