Eclipse Errors

Each time I have opened my app, put it on the simulator, finished the session, then open it again, I get errors (yellow explanation points)in about 20 of the BT_xxxxx.java files in the src folder. The project main folder has a little red box with a white X in it. Ideas?

Hi @Frno, The Warnings are OK...you're likely to get several hundred of them. They mean different things, but if they don't prevent your app from compiling and running correctly, they are likely able to be ignored. Errors are different. Is there anything in the Console screen or LogCat that you can paste here to help us identify what the issue is? Lots of times the following fixes it: * Highlight your project in Package Explorer * Right-click, select Android Tools > Fix Project Properties That may or may not clear up the red Errors. Mark

Thanks. I'll give that a whirl. This forum community is exceptionally supportive and friendly, especially to us newbies.

We've all been through exactly what you have. No sense in being jerks about it, right?! :-) I agree...the people on this forum are the best in the world...bar none! Mark

I know I gripe about it sometimes, but repeat issues like this should be easily found on the forum, but they're not. It's not good practice to have to go to Fred's external search engine to find previous posts on the same things. It's even too difficult to find the link to Fred's search engine! (that's a joke - there's a promotional link in nearly every thread!). I guess the only good thing about it would be from BT's point of view, i.e. lots of search engine juice from lots of unique content variations for the same issues.

One thing many people tend NOT to do, and I'm not saying this is the case for this thread at all, is to review the information found at http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/. I answer tons and tons of questions by pointing to the stuff there...and it's been there for quite some time. Most people just like to jump in and try to make it work, without reading any documentation...that's me to a tee! I bet if we put "sticky" subject with all this info in the forum, people would STILL ask the same questions! Again, not saying this is the case here at all...just answering back to @raveyd. Mark

That's sort of my point Mark. There's a whole load of fantastic content written by yourself and others, but it's not obviously accessible. You're right, I think most people jump in and try to get it to work, when it doesn't, the first port of call is a forum. If the issue isn't found a new post is made and, as it is now, it IS hard to find anything. Personally, I think stickies for the most common problems would work. There's now a structure to the forum, so stickies could go in the relevent sections, maybe even in the personal dashboard? I'd also love to see a properly integrated user edited wiki and public/private user groups, but they can wait!

I did about eight advanced searches of the forums before posting. Tried all keywords I could think might find it. I would always rather find an already prepared response than wait and hope someone with the answer reads my post.

@Frno, not having a go at you or anything. Totally not your fault at all! That's the problem. The answers are there, but can't be found. Personally, once a thread drops off the first page, it's lost to me.

I always use a Google search to search the forums: site:google.com/forums <blah> Point well taken, though, @raveyd. I suspect buzztouch is on these improvements! Mark

I will try Googling for forums. Good idea. Meantime, I now know that Android Tools can fix this, because it worked. Thanks.

In the grand scheme of things, it's a minor niggle. A google search or Fred's engine will get the results, but people just being introduced to BT are unaware of this. I just feel that BT is so brilliant in almost every way, but the forum lets it down a bit. But, I also suspect that BT will be on the case at some point!

@raveyd, I totally agree with you on this problem which is why I created my blog & search engine. Basically the biggest problem is that most of this is too new to most and they don't know the terminology to even look up the answer. So, I'm now (3-4 weeks ago) have started The Android Process, which will lead new & old users through the process and hopefully introduce them to common issues & solutions. My blog is open should anyone wish to contribute. As for newbies or even experienced users not knowing about my site that's understandable. I've notice it takes several visits for most users to actually read relevant parts. Don't expect that to change. Fred

Freds search engine rocks. I understand where my melon attacked friend is coming from. I think BTU will help cover a lot of areas
