App Rejected

Hi all. Had one of my apps rejected yesterday for the following reason. ***** Reasons for Rejection: 8.1: Apps must comply with all terms and conditions explained in the Guidelines for using Apple Trademark Names and the Apple Trademark Products List Mar 14, 2012 07:04 PM. From Apple. 8.1 We found that your app does not comply with the Guidelines for Using Apple's Trademarks and Copyrights <http://www.apple.com/legal/trademark/guidelinesfor3rdparties.html>, as required by the App Store Review Guidelines. Specifically, your app includes "Apple" in the app name in an inappropriate manner. For your convenience, we've provided the relevant section/s of the Guidelines for Using Apple's Trademarks and Copyrights. Product Names Guidelines You may use Apple, iPhone, or any other Apple word mark (but not the Apple Logo or other Apple-owned graphic symbol/logo) in a referential phrase on packaging or promotional/advertising materials to describe that the third party product is compatible with the referenced Apple product or technology, provided they comply with the following requirements. a. The Apple word mark is not part of the product name. b. The Apple word mark is used in a referential phrase such as "runs on," "for use with," "for," or "compatible with." c. The Apple word mark appears less prominent than the product name. d. The product is in fact compatible with, or otherwise works with, the referenced Apple product. e. The reference to Apple does not create a sense of endorsement, sponsorship, or false association with Apple or Apple products or services. f. The use does not show Apple or its products in a false or derogatory light. In other words, whether appearing on the application itself and/or in marketing materials, the word iPhone may be used as a descriptor, but not as part of the product name. For example, the following are acceptable: GreatApp - with tagline "for iPhone" GreatApp - with tagline "iPhone edition" GreatApp - with tagline "iPhone version" GreatApp - with tagline "iPhone 4 for Verizon Wireless" The following are not acceptable: iPhone GreatApp iPhoneGreatApp GreatiPhoneApp ***** Basically, i play in an amateur poker league called APPL(E). This stands for Amateur Poker Players League (Europe) I had a feeling that i may get issues with this app for copyright reasons. Would people agree with me when reading the above that its just the name on the icon thats the issue or is it the icon aswell ? This is currently what im using http://www.randalldesigns.co.uk/untitled.PNG If i change the icon to something like 'Amateur Poker', do you feel that will be OK? And silly question....as its been a while. to change the name that appears under the icon...was this a BT setting or something i did in iTunes connect ? :S On the upside, i did have my first app acceted on the same day ! Thanks

Ha! Had a look at the logo, might cause you issues even with a name change, then again maybe not. They can't really stop you using an apple image as opposed to an Apple image, you follow? They do seem to say it is only the use of the word Apple that they don't like. I'd register a new app in iTunes and change the name of the app in xcode (BT_info.plist) to match that name.

Thanks from 'Some guy from over the pond with a funny accent'

No need to do that. Just match the app names in the file above to the new app ID in iTunes. Ps I'm from Glasgow Scotland, been over the pond for 8yrs though.

As a member of the want to be over the pond I must defend brother Mac, yes he has abandoned us for Warm climate, beautiful woman, great denistry and a unhealthy homicide rate (ignoring that the UK develops a surprisingly high rate of serial killers!) But to me he is always a celt , you can never take his freedom. PS The guy in the photo isn't a member of the surprisingly high rate of serial killers, he has that dexter smile! (If so my name is really a cover - my real name is Fred)

Pfft... you guys may wanna talk when the suicidal rates matches the country I'm in - considering the everlasting winter and the stigma that the ABBA music has put on all of us, it might not come as a surprise ;) On topic- I think that both the name AND the apple itself in the icon is problematic. I understand that it's your logo since I saw the website but if you inserted the card and the apple as it instead of just the apple logo you might pass, just by changing the apps name. Just my two cent's ;) BR/Stefan
