Blackberry App Approved!

Hi, Just got notification that one of my apps was approved for Blackberry App World. I ported it from my Android version to try and earn one of the free Blackberry tablets. I hope this means I get one! The coolest part of this is that I now have the same app in three different markets - iOS, Android and Blackberry. Just 9 short months ago I wondered if I would EVER get an app done. Then I came across buzztouch, and the rest has been history! I've gushed about buzztouch enough already, but I can honestly say it's helping me accomplish things I didn't even know were possible. Here's the Blackberry link in case anybody is interested: http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/87897/?lang=en And, here's basically how I got it done: * Downloaded and installed the Blackberry Plugin for Eclipse * Stripped out all Google Maps references in my v1.4 buzztouch code, as the Tablet OS doesn't support it yet * Registered with the Blackberry Vendor Portal, and got all my certificates * Used the Blackberry plugin to "blackberryize" my app and do the required signing * Used the online Blackberry tool to verify my app, sign it (again I think...not sure), and submit it * Used the Blackberry Vendor Portal to provide the details * Waited a couple weeks Overall it was a relatively simple process (though not necessarily for the faint of heart). The app is for sure not optimized for tablet viewing, but I guess it's good enough since they approved it! If anybody is going through this process and gets stuck, don't hesitate to ping me. Mark

Your'e the man of the hour Mark! Congrats, I gave up on blackberry market when my eclipse collapsed on me and when I realised how much work I needed to put just to get a blackberry tablet. Thumbs up! BR/Stefan

I agree, @Stefan...it was probably more work that it'll ultimately be worth. I haven't gotten the "your tablet is in the mail" email yet, but at the very least, it was a fun technical challenge. I have one more app in their queue that just got rejected for signing issues...trying to figure that out. Not sure what the driving force behind all this is for me! ;-) Mark

Mark, I two had two BT apps approved on the BlackBerry Market . After approval it took them a week to ask for my shipping details, and then they said it would be 72 hours until the device ships. It's been almost a week since! They aren't exactly efficient... Anyhow, the funny thing is that I never tested my app, nor even convert it properly in Eclipse. I just removed the Maps references, and used their converter.

Hey Javoooo, Yeah, it does appear to be a pretty slack process. I tried testing mine in their Playbook simulator, but it ran so slow it was darn near impossible. To be entirely honest, I'm not sure exactly how it looks on the Playbook! I have to assume they did their testing, and the results are up to their standards. If I ever get the tablet, I'll load it up and check for sure. Thanks for the heads up on the slow timetable. Mark

Haha- I don't know what mine look like either! Initially I sent them an app that used a button menu, and I thought that might look a bit messed up on a tablet, so I quickly made a quiz in 1.4. Turns out both got accepted, though. The process got stalled for the button menu one as a had to complete a copyright waiver thingo. I'm not expecting any sales really, I listed both apps as free to try to bribe the reviewers into accepting me.

way to go mark! just waiting on the company vendor approval so i can submit mine. i've been testing my app on the Simulator/VMware Fusion they reccomend. it's a 30 day trial of Fusion - so i'll have to keep reacquiring that continue testing/developing after this.... looks pretty close to the Android app. it doesn't seem to like the menu header image tho. i noticed bot Androind and Blackberry don;t seem to like when you specify the size of the image. When i remove the size and any other 'options' on the image (like rounded corners) then it works. i wish i knew what size these devices want, i'm just guessing starting with 300x150 pixel sized headers. I just procured a Curve so i can test it on the actual device. Planning to do that Friday.

Nice work! I am still waiting to hear back on mine. It got kicked back initially because I did not select 2.0 as the min OS. I used the eclipse plug-in tool. I wasn't able to get the simulator to work either. The fact that you have to buy (or use free trial) software to run the sim is a bit of a joke. Jim

Great news. Nobody deserves it more than you. What I want to know is when did you find the time in between your '"Real job", getting the kids to softball, and being the best "go to" guy in the forum!

Awesome @Gonorthwest and javoooo!! Mine was approved this past Saturday and it was paid. I received the shipping info on Sunday but haven't heard nothing since. Hoping for the tracking email soon! I like javoooo used the online converter. Used but 1.5 and one b.t 1.4. I will now try to get into the Nook marketplace! Then I think all grounds will be covered. When Im successful I will post in the forum

The reporting wasn't available until today and I haven't checked yet.. I'm not sure how it will fair but I would never know without trying. Edit: Sorry I just noticed that I could view download reports inside of the portal. I was confused why I had to sign up with digital river for other reports.. A little confusing. Anyway, just one download on the day that it was approved so I'm guessing that was possibly the reviewer :)
