Copyright

Hea, I'm just new to this and creating my first application however I'm worried i may infringe copyright difficulties. For example when naming the application do i have to check no company in the world has that name?

Hi @PEhendy, Welcome to buzztouch! Copyright stuff is a super tricky issue. For your app name, I'd suggest doing a Google search on the name. If nothing comes up, then you're probably safe, at least from the perspective of copyright infringement. Mark

You should read my Copyright blog. It covers many copyright issues. Using a name for the app is not a copyright issue. It may be a trademark issue or cyber squatting issue. Many years ago after considerable expense Exxon rolled out their new name and found a company in Arkansas already had that name. So, yes checking is worth the time. Fred

hea guys cheers for the heads up! when you create an app do you try to make the name quirky or do you just stick to the basics to avoid any trademark issues. Mark, is your rule of thumb then if a name exists then stay clear? Fred cheers for the link ill give it a read now

A review of apps on the various app stores would usually be a good search. Calling an app about Pepsi and calling it Pepsi would be confusing to the user and wouldn't work for you because it it wasn't rejected by the app stores you'll receive a letter from Pepsi shortly. Fred
