Basic question on Java

I have been playing around with Hype by Tumult to do some HTML5 animations, I was thinking of integrating the HTML files into a new app I will do next on BR. Is the Java files I include as a package that is exported OK to use when no web connection or are there certain functions that can only be performed when online. Please excuse if very rudimentary question.

Not sure what you're asking here. Of course you can use the .Java source to do whatever you need. The only functions that need an interent connection are the ones that need to download data to drive the app / screen. Lots of methods don't need any external data. Say more. I'll say more. LOL.

Marko, in The Buzztouch Method in my guide www.myskylla.wordpress.com you see that your BTv1.5 apps have and use javascript and more. So the answer to your question is already built into to the app, you just need to see the answer. I know this is not a straight on answer, but by seeing the answer that's already there you'll have a better understanding about apps. Fred

Ah, javascript maybe? Didn't think of it that way. There isn't much client side javascript included in any of the standard source. Javascript is entirely different than Java. Could explain the confusion?

Firstly Fred I think you are either offering me the blue pill or the red pill. I quite like being in the matrix of ignorance, but would like to upgrade my kung fu skills, and that answer is more confusing than morpheous's sun glasses. David what I was asking in a clumsy way was if a program like Hype has stand alone code and does not have to reference the website for its functions. I think I know understand that java only need to be online if information that you need such as a database is online. See if this BT U was open I would be in Java 101 PS Parker never responds after I have given his bandana stick.

So Java and javascript are different why didn't they choose different names. You dont get a GM Focus, or a Bentley Tourino. Next you will tell me theres a record label also called apple !!

Hi Mark, I think David answered this sorta, but fundamentally, if you are integrating some new functionality, and they require java files that don't currently come with the BT download, then you would need to make sure you include all of them that the new functionality needs. You wouldn't pull any of them from the network or anything...they would be compiled locally. If the new functionality requires a network connection, that's entirely different. It will still require the local java files. Mark

They did choose different names. One's java, the other's javascript....... Don't hit me.

I think there is a record label called Apple? Apple Records, seems familiar. I'm stoked to reply because I know that when I hit the Submit button it's gonna send my remarks and return like silly fast. Last night, and for the first few days of the site roll-out, posting to threads was sluggish. Faster than before for sure but sluggish anyway. Added some tricky-business to speed it up. You'll notice too ;-) Java: I'll bet the code / package that Hype provides @Marko is a library package. Think of it this way. Providing actual source code, in plain text (like we give you) is 100% different than providing a library of code. Generally speaking, libraries are pre-compiled programs that you can include in your projects. Sometimes called JAR files and a few other things. The idea is the functions provided by such a library are abstracted from the developer. No source code in sight, just a library with some printed documentation on what methods you can use. The methods themselves are compiled in the library. This approach has all sorts of pros and cons. In this case, whatever Hype does it probably does it by way of a library and not open source code you can see, feel, touch, and BREAK!. If this is true, adding the library to the existing project is easy. It's normally a matter of adding to the folder in the project, then using Eclipse to "add external library" or JAR or whatever the dialogue reads. After adding the external library, all of it's methods and routines are available. The docs for the library are normally delivered with the little package. Tons and TONS of third party libraries (often called SDK's) are available for mobile these days. Lots of folks trying to make a living by provided some pre-packaged solutions. All good. Think Urban Airship, Test Flight, etc, etc. "Add this to your project, command it to do this, you're all set" K, gonna click submit....BAM, done!

So cool, morpheous's sun glasses, http://www.matrix2sunglasses.com/ Didn't realize there was a brand. All of the answers referenced above you can see in action in your source code. Open the hood and take a look around, it's amazing how well BT Source Code is put together and how much is there to play around with. Fred

Thank you David, Fred, Mark et al (except raveyd - that will come at end) You have helped me enormously with this info. Starting to understand some basic concepts. David - the site is improving all the time and its a great credit to the BT team. And also thanks for supporting in other ways. raveyd - my good friend - I now know how that melon got on your head. I thought I was the cheeky one. I propose a deduction of 100 points per cheeky comment. I didn't want to do this as I know melons are looked down on by superior member of the fruit family such as the pineapple and coconut. I always stuck up for the underdog, the less noble members of the fruit family. You are making me a fruitist.

Marko been playing around with .hype documents and I have found that it works great on the URL menu in buzztouch however loosing the sound when I transfer folder into sdk. Here is a link to what I created with .hype. http://rxpublishing.com/quiz1/quiz1.html Love to see your results from your testing the program. It's incredible!

Hi Sheri I have done your test, do I win a medical uniform- it would soo go to my head. Great site- really enjoyed the flow of it. THe site I have done is scratchurapp.com - I think its a little garish like the first time DTP software came out and you created a news letter that Dan Brown would try to use in a codex. PS raveyd looked at my site and was so unimpressed that a melon was used to hide the monstrosity from raveyd's eyes

Love to see the love in here! Thanks guys I love your site Marko. You actually gave me the "ah ha moment" when you first posted your app in the forums...of it's not just about the function but the graphics. Graphics represent Buzztouch's capabilities and blow the others out of the water. I am still playing around with stuff. I used Buzztouch's features with my quiz that is waiting to be reviewed at Apple. http://tinyurl.com/beacna. I have to thank Raveyd for pointing me into the direction for locating great graphics. I posted the other quiz link to show you how .hype can work with buzztouch...AMAZING. Now show some love guys...you both give great advice and I hate to see you to bickering. Now kiss and make up! ;-)

Dearest Raveyd, It is time I let out my true feelings, at first it was a quizical look at your profile, but I am bigger than that, yes my friend has a melon on there head, but if Baloo can be friends with mogwli in Jungle book then we can get past this. Simon and Garfunkel may be no more, Ike and Tina Turner may have had a sticky end, Selina Gomez and Justin Beiber may be just a Disney marriage, but Raveyd you had me at hello ( and also your answer to how to code custom HTML). I have you back Raveyd, I will not let the discrimination of fruitists break our union. Like Thelma and Louise I will be there to the end. (Or when I beat you on the top 25 Forum guys) :)))))
