Need to build an app for my brother's ski racing website

Hi Ive gone through BTU a few times, listen to the BT podcast, have no dev background but would sure love to hook up with the right BT mentor to help me put together a mobile app for this website http://www.cwscraceteam.com/ -either by building outright first and helping me reverse engineer it afterwards, or somehow proding me from my relentless stuckness... Thank you David, Chris and their team and BT community for all you have done so far. How can it be so easy for me to recognize the power and approach of BT, but still not be able to prod myself out of the dev/design starting blocks? Jeez I been beating my head against this for too long. Thanks all, and happy holidays! Brad Tollefson

Hi Brad, whilst I'm no expert, I'd be happy to try and help out (I'm received so much help from the forums here, I need to return the favour!). If you'd like to email / skype etc, do let me know. Stephen.

OMG -- I can't even look at web site with a mobile device because it requires Flash! Yikes! First thing, overhaul that web site to be just HTML. -- Niraj

Hi Stephen and Niraj! Thank you Stephen. I will send email and skype info to you and that would be so great! Niraj! I usually build in Wordpress, but my bro's site is with Wix- I'm just about finished with converting it to HTML5 via Wix. We're trying to figure out what most belongs on the site mobile app. Can anyone tell me how close or beyond this app - Alpine Ski Coach https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/alpine-ski-coach/id668784891 we might get with BT? Im sure its just as far as our imaginations can go- but right now, my only goes as far as- what would an Alpine Racer version of that app look like, for racers who are skiing and wanting to train when their coach might not be around? Thanks! BT

Using that Alpine Ski Coach as an example app, it is very achievable with BuzzTouch. Basically, you would use the Menu plugins for navigation and the HTML or the PDF plugins to show the instructions. If you want the iPad version, then a bit of extra work is necessary to make a XIB file for the SplitViewController (skinny left navigation column and wide right content column). Most likely, you don't have to synchronize the mobile app with the web site. I too like WordPress for web sites. Are you using WP for the revised web site? If so, a custom theme or a pre-built theme? You have exciting times ahead of you! The mobile app awaits you to get started ... :-) -- Niraj

Using only Wix HTML5 converter for this round - my bother knows Wix and wants to be able to do admin himself. Next time, maybe I can persuade him that WP with an appropriate themeforest theme might just be the ticket. Is there a gallery of BT-originated apps gathered anywhere? And is there an SMS plugin or tie in that would allow a BT app to coordinate SMS text messages between our head coach, assistant coaches, our young racers, and their parents? Maybe I should ask all these questions elsewhere? Thanks. Niraj

Sheri has made a gallery of BT apps, I've asked her to respond directly to your question. She also lives in the Northwestern USA, "On the other side of the mountain range", as I've heard her say. https://www.buzztouch.com/Sheri Within the app, perhaps the Scringo SDK can help to coordinate messages amongst the Users of the app. However, I am not sure if Scringo allows one to partition the chat space into Rookies, Intermediates, Advanced, etc. There is always more than one way to skin a cat. When you get to that point, ask your question on another forum post. :-) -- Niraj

Hey Hey! Happy Holidays:) Here is the post for some examples or what you can do with Buzztouch: http://www.buzztouch.com/forum/thread.php?tid=9F55BABD9B0A5A2C8196B01&currentPage=1 GONORTHWEST has a great guide to this in the how to's: https://www.buzztouch.com/files/howtos/Things_You_Need_Before_You_Start_Developing_Apps_v1.1.pdf Question I ask do you want to develop web app or native app? Web App Resources: Elegant Themes-Wordpress http://www.elegantthemes.com/ also codecanyon has some templates for "responsive" web apps http://themeforest.net/?osr=tn Buzztouch Resources: Recommend Look at some plugins and consider using api for cameras and like Niraj says to use Scringo partnership for a community feel [email protected] want to schedule google hangout Always here to help no matter where you live Surrounded by Ski resorts here :) http://www.schweitzer.com/content/uploaded/potd/Pod.gif
