buzztouch in CS-2

I teach computer science at a small liberal arts school in Oregon. As part of pushing mobile development down into the first year curriculum I plan to have my students use buzztouch in their second CS/programming course. I am not an expert, but buzztouch is the best resource I have seen for learning mobile development. To practice/learn basic Java - or Python - I strongly recommend http://codingbat.com/ by Nick Parlante. For web development/JavaScript I recommend the following John Resig associated resources: https://www.khanacademy.org/cs, http://processingjs.org/, Learning Advanced JavaScript (http://ejohn.org/apps/learn/), and http://jquery.com/.

Hi @dkf, Welcome to Buzztouch! I've been to McMinnville many times...we have family in Eugene and in Portland. Love the area! Thanks for the links. Many of us are constantly trying to learn new things. I think you'll find Buzztouch an amazing platform for your students. It's super easy to learn, but also super powerful as you have all the code at your disposal. As a learning too, it's second to none! Don't hesitate to post if you or your students have any questions. We're all here to help! Mark

Welcome - and thanks for the support! I think using Buzztouch to assist a college program makes complete sense. Feel free to ask whatever questions you have, and make any suggestions that come to mind. We're constantly working to make this a better product and better community.

This is what I would do if I was teaching a class on Buzztouch. I would set up self-hosting of the Buzztouch Control panel. Within the self-hosted control panel, it is possible for two users to have access to the app at the same time, the Admin and the Owner. I would ask each student to give me a short name for their app, and then I would create an app for each student in my Control Panel. The student would be the Owner of their app, but the teacher would have Admin rights to see all of their work. The reason why I think this would work so well is because if a student is stuck on something, then the teacher will be able to go into the control panel and see what is wrong. In addition, either the student or the teacher will be able to download the app data. I haven't heard of this being done in a classroom setting, but I don't know why it wouldn't work. With this model, only the teacher would need to be a Buzztouch Member.
