How To Play Audio

Greetings - I suspect if I poke around long enough I'll find the answers - but thought I would give the forum a try. I am trying to create an app with a simple menu, each menu item is a song title. When the user selects a song, a new page should display. That page should display audio controls for playing the song (play, stop, loop, volume, etc.). Also on that page, I would like a fair amount of text. The text can scroll, or can page next, but I would prefer that at all times the audio controls are displayed (so that only part of the page would scroll/next and the controls would remain). First off, I am a bit confused by the audio issue. I see an audio option but cannot upload files (which file types are allowed?). I would like to include the audio in the app (so the user can play offline). Second, is it possible to have half of the page scroll or page next? Third, if I can upload audio (or add it to my app folder on my computer), where/how do I select which controls I would like to go with my audio? Any other advice is appreciated. I am working in Buzztouch v2.0. Thank you! Amy

It seems that HTML will be better for what you wish to do. The Streaming Audio solution which was developed for BTv1.5 Android will probable work for you. Find the link on my site. Www.myskylla.wordpress.com Fred

Thanks Fred. FYI, I am creating this for the iPhone. So for HTML, how would I include the native iPhone audio player? I don't see a way to add that to an HTML page. Am I confused? Amy

Yikes, don't as me iPhone question. I'm like to say something I know very little about. I would start by looking at the file structure and identify how Buzztouch uses HTML in BTv1.5. This should have the answer to your question. Read the Buzztouch Method in my guide. Further I say not, nows I turn to learn. Www.myskylla.wordpress.com Fred

you are not confused amysus a few folks here have built apps with audio/video i'm sketching one out now for a band and looking at these 2 things: 1) create a basic Hello World app designed around a media player. http://www.developers-life.com/hello-music-player.html i try to take a baby step like this first before plunging into it full bore. it shows me it works, it test my development enviroment and i hopefuly get that first feeling of accomplishmwnrt when i see Hello World! 2) http://www.jplayer.org/ That seems to be the bomb for integrating an audio/video player in html. Just playing with that now myself as well. Thinking Android Apps with this. My guess is that to get the app you described approved by Apple - you'll probably want to use the Apple Native player. Not saying you have to but Apple seems to really push using native iOS functionality to get apps approved.

Thank you ATRAIN53! I'll take a look at these sites. Yes, I woud love to use Apple's native player, if possible. I started looking online a bit more and found some examples (and info on Apple's dev site) for how to access the phone's iPod functionality or music library, but that is not what I want. I want our app to contain music (that we are writing/we own), and I assumed there would be a standard Apple player. After I poked around some more, I started to think that perhaps not - perhaps I need to create a player in HTML. Anyway - I will take a look at the sites you have posted, maybe the answer is right there. Thank you again. Amy

Perhaps I 've overlooked a basic issue. You can play audio in BTv2.0 (no background image or other features you requested) Fred @ATRAINS53, jplayer seems very interesting.

Thank you Fred and ATRAIN53. Still not quite hitting what I want, I don't think. The first item you list, Hello World, sounds like it accesses the user's music library - not what I want. The second item is a player, but as far as I can tell, it's Flash based. Does anyone know if the IOS includes an audio player for playback of all audio, not only in or through the library? If not, I guess I can make (find/use) an HTML player. Thank you all again. Amy
