Self Hosting

Sorry if any of these seem like stupid questions but im totally new to hosting, What i want to basically know this, The self hosting option from BT do i need to physically own my own server ? Or am i able to Rent a 10gb cloud server for $7:50 a month from a company to run the BT server on ? so i pay £37 in total for both and then im able to produce as many apps as i like etc

You need a hosting service for sure. Free or paid thats up to you and how much use is in your plans. If it's just an occasional app and not many users then the free way is ok. If you plan on making this a business then I would suggest a paid service. You may wish to start out free then see how it goes. You can always move to a paid server after that. Here are a couple free ones I use and they work well. www.000webhost.com and www.1freehosting.com Good luck...

Gbakakos Thanks a lot for your speedy reply ! I do indeed plan to make a business out of this as well as website design and mobile website design so id like to figure it out and tinker with it. I'll give one of the free ones i try first i think I was basically gonna use rackspace like buzztouch at least then the customer support have a clue what im on about hahaha

You don't need to own your server. you can rent and host BT in a cloud server with your own control panel and create as many apps as you like. And you can give accounts to others to work on your BT site. I wouldn't comment on the cost but you may check this with the BT pricing system. If you are creating your app in BT server, you also have 2 options: (1) You can stay using BT server to host your config file or (2) you can move that file to another 3rd party server to communicate with your published app. p.s. sorry did not see the other replies while I am typing... might be double.. some points..

im not very tech inclinded but my guess is the config file is used to upate the app once i make changes to it after publishing right ? cool well i looked into it cost of hosting and its seems fairly cheap enough to rent my own and run bt from there allowing me more apps and BT some extra funding to continue there excellent work

You need to download the server software from BT site. Then follow the PDF directions. You should download an FTP program also like filezilla. It's a free one. Little easier and faster to use than the FTP options in the Chanel from the host site your using.

In the Cpannel on the hosted site you should see your FTP information. You use that in Filezilla and Connect. Then you ftp (copy) over the Entire BT-server directory to the public_HTML directory. After that it's follow the PDF directions. You should first create the DB as per the PDF instructions. That is done in the cpannel of the hosted site. Everything else is done via the browser when you execute the install script.... Once again per the PDF instructions. If you get stuck just post for help. But keep it under this thread. easier for others to help also...

If your still having problems, buzztouchmods.com can host for you and install 2.0 for extremely cheap? http://buzztouchmods.com/forum/viewthread.php?thread_id=8 Take care, David.
