Going from android app 1.4 to 2.0?

I've been using buzztouch since before even 1.5 came out, so all my well established apps are all running on 1.4 Is it possible to convert a 1.4 app to 2.0? I was wondering if not, would it be possible to create a 2.0 android app, and then replace the 1.4 app on the marketplace with the newly created 2.0 app and run it out to all current users as an app update? I've played with 1.5 a bit, but I couldn't find a change log for 1.5 to 2.0, and just playing around in the control panel, 2.0 looks the same as 1.5

I am new yet, but from what I have read, it is not possible to migrate from 1.4 to BT-Server (2.0) as the app/package name is not duplicatable, which means that the "replacing" of the app on the market, is not possible, as they do not match (besides the internal version number). What I have read, is that a new package needs to be made, to "replace the old one" then have something in your current package (splash screen maybe) inform the users to uninstall this one and get the newer version. When they have all upgraded, or maybe even before, remove the old one from the market. Now again I am new to this also, just what I have read and the way I understand it.

Hi piggilypoo, There isn't any magical converter for changing v1.4 or v1.5 apps into v2.0. If you want to convert your apps you can either try to code them using the creating plugins tutorial ( was in the help section, and will be added to the new website in the near future. ) as a guide, or just remake the app using the new 2.0 features. Yes I do believe recreating your app using v2.0 you will be able to add your "new" app to whichever store it is in as an update for you current users to update. 2.0 has a lot of similarities with v1.5. The main differences are under the hood and should allow for us, and you guys as well, to create more plugins, faster. Plus there's the self hosting options now available. :)

Is there anyway to change the package name of the newly created 2.0 app to match that of the old app? That way it could be replaced in the market

You could try changing the name of the BTv2.0 app to the BTv1.4 app. Not sure if it'll work. That the only solution I can think of since you can't use a different package name. Another possibility is to have you users uninstall the old app and reinstall the new app. This can be done by placing a new homescreen with a link to the new app, with the user option of continuing or installing the new app. QuickOffice used this method last year. The problem is my app is a paid app, and I don't want my users to have to pay all over again

That shouldn't be a problem, since other QuickOffice do it. Figuring out how they do it is the trick. How many users hundreds or thousands? Fred
