Paying for my application, one time fee or monthly payments?

I've been working on my app for about a month. It currently has 255 screens and I believe it will have upwards of 500 screens. I was planning to make this free to use. It will be offline and will not need regular updates. With the changes being made to buzztouch, I realize that there is a monthly free to attempt to develop the app I am making. I'm not sure my app is worth 30$ a month as I will be making no income for it. Should I stop making my app if I can't pay the 29.99 a month? Is it a one-time payment if it's offline and does not require regular updates?

Hi, Since you're app will be offline, it will not increase the views count at all, so you don't need to worry about that. You could decrease the screens count by hosting your JSON data on a remote server, and then creating base screens that reference that file, to build the extra screens. That should not count against your screen count. With respect to paying for a free app, you could enable Ads on your app, and get some revenue that way? If you are making this for iOS, you have already dropped $99/yr to be in the program, so there is some upfront cost. Mark

I'm actually developing this app for my friends company as a "fun" side project as in attempt to better understand programming. She knows about the 99$ a year from apple. So if I finish the app, do I transfer my account to her to pay for the monthly fees from buzztouch? I initially told her I was using a free program to do this app and I could teach her how to upgrade herself in this site. I may just add ads too to help her generate some revenue as I believe it will be used quite a bit. A bit offtopic for this forum area, but I do not fully understand the screen count. Is every sub-menu list considered a screen? My app basically consists of sub-menus that link into a word doc. It's an application guide for aftermarket parts for cars. Make > Model > year/word.doc. So if I currently have 255 sub-menus, I'll need 255+ word docs, will that equate to 500+ screens? BTW, your guides are awesome Mark. I am someone with no developing experience and your guide not only walked me through everything, the brief explanations on what we are doing and what to expect encouraged me to learn more. Thanks for the response!

I think the easiest way to see your screen count is to go to your application, and click on "Screens and Menus". At the bottom-right of the list, you'll see something like "1-25 of 83", showing that you have in this example 83 screens in this app.

Ok. Then my app will definitely be 500+ screens. I guess I'll talk to my friend to see if she's willing to pay for the app before I continue to work on it. I'm probably going to have to transfer this account to her as well. Will I be able to test this app on the android before deciding whether to go with buzztouch or not? I'm not sure if she's willing to fork out the cash before seeing the end product.

Hi Evan, Thanks for the comments on the guides...I appreciate hearing that! I try to make them as clear as possible. If you have any suggestions for improvements, please don't hesitate to let me know! As for the screen thing, I suspect it'll all work itself out. Just give the BT gang some time to address site technical issues. Mark
