Hi @JDeWitt78, Have you actually configured the AVD in Eclipse? This document shows you how, in case you haven't done it yet: http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Setting_Up_Your_Android_Development_Environment_v1.3.pdf If you have, can you post the output from the Console? It'll let us know more clearly what's going on. Thanks! Mark

Thanks for the information Mark. I for some reason cannot install Android 4.0 (API 14) and when i skip it and go to Install New software - Eclipse Android Development tools I get this error message: Cannot complete the install because one or more required items could not be found. Software being installed: Android Traceview 16.0.1.v201112150204-238534 (com.android.ide.eclipse.traceview.feature.group 16.0.1.v201112150204-238534) Missing requirement: Android Traceview 16.0.1.v201112150204-238534 (com.android.ide.eclipse.traceview.feature.group 16.0.1.v201112150204-238534) requires 'org.eclipse.ui 3.6.2' but it could not be found

Hi, I did a bit of research, since I had not seen that error before, and this is what I found : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8629294/android-plugin-install-problems-in-eclipse What version of Eclipse are you using? If it's an older one, it might be good to update to a newer one. The document I referenced shows you where to find versions that I are known to work well. Mark

Mark I have both Eclipse Classic and Galileo downloaded. I can run the source code as an adroid project through the eclipse classic version and it tries to launch the virtual simulator....however it gives me an error message saying that there are no AVD listed. When i open Eclipse Galileo and try to create a new project android is not even an option- to create a new android project. I am not sure where i am messing up at? Any ideas?

Hi @JDeWitt78, Glad to hear you got it figured out! It's generally just a matter of trial and error sometimes. And thanks for the link...I'll check it out! One way to start a new project is to import your project using the source code you download from buzztouch. I'm doing this from memory, but I think you can go to File...Import, and then follow the wizard. You'll want to unzip the file that you download from BT, and then specify that root folder as the folder to import from. The correct Google API should get specified if it's been installed. Let me know if you have any further questions! Mark

Mark thanks so much! For some reason I did not scroll to the end of your document that explains how to install the AVD. I came across it through trial and error! Would have saved me some time if I actually read your entire pdf document. Thank you for compiling that. It was extremely helpful in ensuring that I did every thing step by step. I am able to view my app in the simulator now. My only problem at the moment is trying to open the pdf and word docs that I embeded within the app. I have to get a pdf reader and word document reader installed onto the emulator. any suggestions?

Hi @JDeWitt78, Yeah, I have trouble reading whole documents as well! Amazing that I can actually write one! I have the exact same problem with you regarding PDFs and other documents on Android (which, by the way, is NOT a problem with iOS, where it just works!), so I'm going to do some research and hopefully whip up a document on it. Nobody so far has been able to show my how to get it working, and I even installed what I thought was a PDF plugin for the emulator. I'll get this done as soon as I can. Mark

Thanks Mark. There was a reply to my question that lead to a blog, but I could not find the information on the blog. The blog is rather lengthy so perhaps I missed it?!

Thanks. I feel pretty accomplished for one evening with the figuring out the AVD manager and seeing my app on the simulator! Will check in tomorrow to see if anyone else has any thoughts on the pdf issue. Have a great evening

Did a super quick search on Google, and came up with this link. Haven't tried it yet, but looks promising: http://www.androidaz.com/development/how-install-application-and-copy-files-android-emulator Mark

Hey @JDeWitt78, It is pretty cool when your app finally shows up in the Emulator, isn't it! Great work! Mark
