Lite version and paid version

Hi gang, wondering if I would need to incorporate in app purchasing or can I just submit a free Lite version of an app and then another paid version of the full app, then maybe just a link in the free version to the paid app, haven't found anything definitive on the forums or web...thanks everyone :)

My comment would be to have 2 separate apps. I think it would be easier to control, but not sure.

That's what I'm thinking, reading thru apples guidelines hard to tell if they will require in app purchasing in the free version...would rather just two separate apps. Thanks for the reply :)

I have done 2 apps with the lite version incorporating about an 1/8th of full app, it has worked really well for me so far . The pickup on the paid app has increased and the number of different countries that have downloaded free app is massive. I am thinking of revising free app to have iADs but have little experience of them.

they dont accept lite verisons anymore, but i have found a way around that. Ill just have like pictures or graphics that says download your apps name pro, but at the bottom of that picture or graphic i would put like jk2ads or ad. It worked for me. Hope im making sense.

Bummer about no Lite versions...apple keeps us on our toes, gonna have to read up on in app purchases...I think I understand what @jackhos1 is saying, won't apple notice similar icons and content in 2 apps? Thanks!

My lite app with big yellow banner on logo saying lite was just a few weeks old, must be a very new development although my lite app has different name so I have CV/Resume Lite which is the cut down version of Buildmycareer - if that makes sense. I like the idea of in app purchases as if done well its a great way of suppporting a app I like.

I think it depends on the reviewer. I still see schizophrenic things from Apple. Had two nearly identical apps submitted the same day for two clients (using their developer accounts). One approved with no problem, the other was rejected for not enough native content. I'd give it a shot and see if you can get the lite app approved then submit the other. I wouldn't submit both at the same time. Same reviewer would get both and would probably reject.

Cool, thinking I will try the lite version...and work on in app purchasing in the meantime....This is about a month away from submitting but trying to prepare....wonder if it's possible to submit Lite version and hold the release date so once full paid version was released they hit the market on the same day? Thanks guys!

I emailed Apple to double check this..so i guess it's ok to submit 2 versions still...@App Master, did you submit both apps at the same time? thanks :) here was Apple's resppnse Thank you for contacting Apple Developer Support regarding the iOS Developer Program. If I understand your inquiry correctly, you are asking if you are required to use In-App Purchases to submit the both the free lite version and full paid version of your app. If you do not intend to offer any In-App Purchases in your apps, you are not required to implement In-App Purchasing in your app(s).
