The famous 'how much' question. It's nearly impossible to tell what you should charge because so many things are related. I can say that I have created apps for $300 and I have created apps for $15,000, and of course everywhere in between. It all depends on the clients requirements and what you'll need to do. Like most development for hire work, the toughest part is getting the Statement of Work nailed down. Are you ever done or will they need you forever? Do you need to meet the client a dozen times to go over design requirements? Are you selling them something 'canned' or 'custom.' Do you need to also develop a backend to support all the features they require? If it gets rejected (based on their idea), do you continue adjusting, tweaking, changing for free? When iOS changes in 6 months do you need to update the app for free? On and on and on. If you're experienced and understand how you can actually help them - charge them a professional wage (doctors don't work for $300 a week, nor should you). If you're not a professional, do some work for dirt cheap to gain some credibility. Just like anything, get good, get paid well. Offer an ongoing service, get paid well for a long time (but give up some freedom in the process).

good answer Dave. you could start with a base app price and then offer them 'additional' features at a cost. plan to charge them for the maintenance up front. and make sure you read this article: http://freelanceswitch.com/clients/4-ways-to-kill-scope-creep/ --- I can’t meet the deadline --- That has saved me from giving up a lot of my time or avoiding bad projects i don't want to get hosed on. Lots of good tips (and jobs) for us Freelancers on that site.

Jackhos1. This is what I do. I offer to develop the app for free and once it gets accepted by apple I offer the customer a subscription on a monthly basis to keep using the app. I also offer 6 hours of free updates to content in the app but if it requires design/code/logic changes that is considered billable separately at an agreed upon hourly rate. You need to decide what you can offer and then make an agreement with your client. Each case is different but the basic idea of free development, with a monthly subscription fee (very low btw in most cases) works for me. Most folks are happy to keep it simple. Tell them the terms and make it very clear what they get and what you offer. They also like to opt out and walk away...in my case...if you know longer want the app...email me and stop the monthly fee and I remove the app...simple. Never give them access to your account though.
