Macapple app - creates employement

I thought I would put this up here as an example of the effect of apps. I was in an interview on Thursday for an American company looking to set up a new division in the UK. The UK manager came down from Scotland to see me and we got through all the normal interview conventions and got to the part of what I like to do in my spare time. Discussed a few things and talked about doing app which he was very interested in, I asked what he enjoys and he mentions he follows Celtic Football club! I seized this opportunity to tell him of a good buddy of mine in US has come up with an app for the club and I had it on my phone. I showed it to him and for the next 10 minutes he was transfixed with it. Tears were coming to his eyes at details of his club, he was like an old man reminiscing on past loves. Friday I was offered the job Macapple you are a star - celic is a great app. Warm Regards Mark (ps I was going to email you personally on this but I feel the Forum should know what a top man you are.)

Congrats on the new gig, that is very cool. They've hired a star! Wow, good stuff, it's my most used app and am in the process of submitting an update, should be tonight. Adding in GameCenter, Push (for all the goal alerts) chat room etc and fine tuning a few little bits and bobs. So many team apps out there that rip off the fans and this one is of course free and ad free. I love the high def grass background on this one as well, look solid on iPad as well. All but done, just taking new screenshots for iTunes. Thanks for that Marko, you have made my day. The power of apps indeed!

Good man! Appreciate it Jackhos1, good man. Again, so many people rip of that soccer team, publishing links in apps and charging several folding dollars.

Thanks Mark for comments, I do not start till march so I will use this as premium app time. I have devised a little evening work scheme that I talked about on app diary, and now the proof is in the pudding as I see my long term future in this arena. And my brother from another mother just tell me when celic is updated and I will be all over it. Anyone see Davids app it shows two things - what a great platform BT is and how far I still have to go to producing an ace app. I like seeing real photos it show me things about the users macapple photo shows he has to do up his house so he doesn't have to live on the subway jackhos1- we have to club together to help pay for you electricity bill - that dark environment is not good for the eyes Gonorthwest - you have to stop burying people in the desert and then taking pics - I have seen CSI vegas - they can locate the body from the shadow direction, giving a gps corodinate. (if you look at the phot ther are two footprints going out but only one coming back!!!)

Happy days buddy. I, like you, wish I had more time to spend on BT. Re Davids app, isn't it cool? Think that lad might have a wee talent! Very cool to see what he produces.

Ha...that's pretty hilarious about the photo! Guess I better do a better job of covering my tracks next time! Your photo...looks like wood slats in the background...I'm guessing you're meeting @MacApple in a pub somewhere! Or maybe you're stuck in a box? Hard to tell! Mark

Hilarious! I do indeed live and sleep on the subway. I have had my suspicions about GoNorthWest and his desert antics for a while, good eye!

Crazy cool. I love this post. @MacApple should send @Marko a 1099 form (a US based form for reporting income during tax season) for the percentage of his paycheck he gets. Too funny and kidding of course. We should start a collection with this stuff. Got an anonymous email the other day with some cool stuff like this. Dude / Gal literally asked to remain anonymous, did not provide a name, and claimed the email address was a temp so we didn't contact them. The gist...they made an app with buzztouch over the weekend about 2 1/2 months ago, got it approved in the app store in the 'middle east' (did not name the country) and kinda thought nothing of it. They wrote after receiving a check for $12,000 +- from Apple for the iAd commission. They claim to be using the unexpected income to buy a house. Get this, dude claims to earn $4500 a YEAR in his normal job. Crazy amount of money - nearly three times an annual salary. That's bad ass. Love this stuff, want new site done, want more plugins done, want more folks to kick some app bootie ;-)

That is very cool, must warm your heart David. You helped a stranger in a far off land change his and his good lady's life. Very, very cool.

I would like to say that what you have done David is not just create some ninja code, but the manner in which you( and all of BT) have helped people right from the start has engendered other users of like qualities such as Macapple, gonothwest, stefan, fred, st276 and so many more. I was having a debate with Fred on an apple subject and not one inappropriate comment was made (apart from some of my cheek), and as Gonorthwest (mark) commented this does not happen in many other online places. No flames or immature insults just dialogue and perspective. I have a routine now that means everyday I check forum to see if I can help in my stumbling manner, usually I am too late, and many time I dont have a clue how to. It feel like its my pleasurable duty. I was once educated that to perform in a successful manner was the success, and the outcome or product is secondary. Well done for being a person and company that performs in a successful manner. ps gonorthwest - I am writting this from a Norwegian prison cell - hence the wooden bars at the back.

This is a great story. I've told the story many times about being in an interview and being offered the job on the spot because I was an Eagle Scout (a decent honor here in the States). But Marko's story is just so much more a sign of the times. And I throw in my thanks to David for creating more than a product - more than a service - more than a website. He has created a community. (and a habit forming drug, that will eventually leach us all of our spare time) :)

@Marko, you're assistance in the forums is anything but stumbling! It's always insightful, thoughtful, and generally spot on. Don't sell yourself short! @MacApple and I are mounting a rescue mission to grab you from the Norwegian prison cell. When you hear the first loud BOOM, crouch AWAY from the wall. We'll be there toot suite! Mark

@javoooo Thank you for the comment Ps my last boss used to smile like your profile just before asking me to help him with a presentation to a group of clinicians. The help usually involved me doing the presentation, answering some complex questions, whilst he got over his hangover at the back of the conference room.
