Compatible Targets - Virtual Device

I have read all the posts on this subject here but still can't figure out exactly what I am supposed to do. I have no errors but I have the following message.I am running 1.4: No compatible targets were found. Do you wish to a add new Android Virtual Device? When I select Yes I get a box that says Select a device compatible with target Google APIs )Google inc. I am just trying to get the simulator to start. Thank you in advance for your help. I think I am finally close to running the simulation if I can get over this hurdle. Allen

Hi @Tobor, In Eclipse, do the following to set up your AVD (Android Virtual Device): * Window...AVD Manager * Select New * Give your AVD a name (can be anything) * Select 'Google APIs, Level 4' in the Target dropdown * Designate a size for your SD card (I do the minimum 9MB..loads faster that way) * Use the Default WVGA800 skin * Hit Create AVD You should now have the appropriate target device for testing your app! Let me know if this does or doesn't work! Mark

First off Mark I want to thank you as you have responded to several of my posts over the last couple of weeks as I have been trying to get my first app running....I will get it eventually. In my pull-down for the Google APIs, my only Google choice is API Lever 15 not 4 as you have suggested. Is 15 OK? Errors I get now: 1) Failed to allocate memory: 1455 2) This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. 3) Please contact the application's support team for more information. Any further thoughts? Thank you again Mark Allen

Hi Allen, Glad that I'm able to be of help from time to time! It appears that you don't have the correct API installed yet. So, do this: * Window...Android SDK Manager * Select 'Android 1.6 (API4)' pacakge * Within that package, select Google APIs * Hit Install x Packages, and let 'er rip! It'll take a bit to download and install those. When it's done, you'll have to restart Eclipse. Then you can go back into your AVD Manager and create your AVD. With respect to those errors, I'd probably shut down Eclipse, come back in, and see what happens next time you try to run it. Couple docs that might help, in case you haven't seen them: http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Setting_Up_Your_Android_Development_Environment_v1.2.pdf http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Compiling_Your_Android_Application_v1.0.pdf Post back if you run into problems! Mark

Thanks again Mark. I did as you suggested and got the proper AVD set up. In addition to the other errors I mentioned above I get a popup that says: Emulator-arm.exe has stopped working. I researched this as well but haven't come up with any definitive solutions to that one. I am wondering if this .exe is related to my other errors. I don't mean to hog your time as I see you are out there helping others as well. BUT...if you have any other ideas I I would welcome them. As a side note: I guess there isn't any magical file that when loaded everything needed to import a Buzztouch app would show up in the AVD......I could wish cant I :) Thank you or anyone else that is out there who can help. Allen

Hi Allen, I get that error quite often with my AVD as well. I have no idea what the issue is, and sometimes it just required a restart of Eclipse, and sometimes I have to reboot my machine. Since it's all Java based stuff, weird things are bound to happen! When in doubt...reboot! No magical file yet! Mark

I had the same problem and I fixed mine by right clicking on my app in eclipse, selecting properties, then I clicked on android and under "Project Build Target" I saw it was set to Google APIs platform 2.2 18 so I went and created an emulator with the same settings now it works.
