quiz images

I'm trying to get rid of the test quiz question smart images from the main page of the quiz and every question. I've searched the forums and read that you can edit these image files, but I accidentally deleted them.. yet they still show up in my quiz. All I want is a blank background… and I can't figure it out! Please help.. Also, I'm an extreme newbie, I know nothing about code. Thanks!

The images will be cached on your device, try the old clean and build, delete the app from phone and redeploy. If you want a blank background you should have kept the images and changed them to the colour of the app background that would have been a quick and dirty fix. Just pull the images back in and try that. The quiz is actually quite a powerful thing, you can ask questions related the image or just have the text overlay the image. Quite a few choices.

No, no need to delete the xcode project. You can see the option to 'clean' in xcode, yes? Go to Product > Clean. Since this is an app you are still developing no harm in deleting it from your phone as well to remove the cached config etc. Then build and run on your phone again. I assume since you are running iOS apps you can pull the deleted images out of your trash, yeah? You'll have your head above the water in no time.

ok, I 'cleaned' it. Yes, I'm still developing but it's not on my actual phone. I have a free iOS 4.3 simulator, still haven't paid apple for the developers kit. I'm not sure where I the 'trash' is when I delete something from Xcode? Thanks! On a side note… is there a way to get the app on your actual phone during developmental stages? Thanks again!

Yes you can get an app on your phone without a dev account, takes a fair amount of work, did it a couple of yrs ago but your phone would have to be jailbroken and have appsync and all that nasty stuff installed. If you feel brave fire up Google, it involves spoofing certs, installing a a few things (like I mentioned, appsync etc) Far easier to pay bucks, trust me, the jailbreaking community used to be cool as you could get some neat extensions, now it just seems like it's about stealing apps as iOS really isn't missing too much. If you are on a Mac nearly all files that are deleted will land in your trash.

Hi @guidoverduci, MacApple is the man to help you out! With respect to your question about testing on a real phone, that, unfortunately, requires the Apple Developer Membership, because you need a development certificate in order to run the app on your phone, and you have to join the club to get that! Thanks guys. I fully intend to buy the membership, just thought I'd build the app first. Do I have the right idea? Or am I missing out on something that you get with the membership? Are you saying you can get it on your phone with a membership and not have to jailbreak? I have a mac, but my trash has since been deleted. When you say delete the cache from your phone, are you talking about cache in the iOS simulator? how do I delete that? when I rebuild and run I'm still getting the image.

Yes, you can get it on the phone with a membership and not have to jailbreak it. It's in development mode, and you can't use that to sidestep distributing it through iTunes, but that's how you do testing on an official device. Lets you test on iPhone/iPad/iTouch, and put it on up to 100 devices (again, for testing purposes). If you are serious about developing for Apple, just pony up the $99...you'll make it back in no time either through app revenue or ad revenue! @MacApple - feels like Monday still! Mark

Yes, if you are an apple dev you can deploy to multiple devices. Forget the jailbreaking comment buddy, wish I hadn't said it. It's a dirty workaround and not worth the effort, really. I was referring to the app on your phone, may be overkill but I always do it after a major change. Not always needed though. You can re-download your project source code and the images will be there. You were sharp deleting your trash, short on HD space? Be nice to the BT servers though and don't go downloading your app source code any time you make a change, each time you re-download your source code one of the BT teams kids go without dinner! Seriously though, you need only pull the config data, load of posts on that here. Best to be careful what you delete until you get a good grip on things.

Jackpot! Redownloading the source code brought the files back and now I've fixed them. I've always gotten in the habit of emptying out my trash as soon as I delete stuff even if I have plenty of hard drive space… oh well. Just out of curiosity, in my old source code files I had word docs in my app under BT_Docs. They aren't there anymore, the sample ones are back, but my app still access the word docs. How is that? I'm head now to purchase my apple developer account! Thanks!

Hi @guidoverduci, With respect to your Word docs (assuming you're not talking about the sample ones), you probably copied them over when you added them to your Xcode project. One thing to keep in mind though...unless you actually copied them into your project somewhere, you simply copied a reference to their prior location. So, even it they show up in Xcode, and look like they're there, they may be grayed out, as in indication that the source file is no longer available. So, you might have to add some items back to Xcode, or delete things from Xcode that are no longer valid. Also...if you installed the app somewhere, and it came with local copies of the files, they will still be available until a new version of the app adds to or removes them. Finally...once you get your Apple Developer membership, give this link a look : http://btugwiki.com/index.php/Code_Signing_Basics. It's all about code signing, and until you get it right, you'll wonder why you ever decided to create apps for iOS. Certificates and code signing have pretty much tripped us all up at some point or another. So, read the tutorial from @Stefan carefully, follow the steps (except the revocation part, since you're installing for the first time), and you should be good to go! Welcome to buzztouch! Mark

Thanks guys, I think I got it all straightened out. I signed up for the membership, I'll give that link a look, thanks! The app should be done soon, but I have no idea what i'm doing outside buzztouch. I've never used Xcode, and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be entering / changing on Xcode itself prior to submitting the app… I have a ton of digging to do, but I'm ready for it!

Hang in there...the process with Apple can be a bit overwhelming! There are some great documents and stuff in the resource center that you should take some time to read...will make things go much more smoothly! http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/ And, if you get stuck, just post here, and it's likely you'll get a response within minutes!
