background image size for button

Could someone please tell me the size the background image should be for a button on iphone and ipad. I assume it depends on the size of the button. Thanks

Hi. ON one or two of my apps I use the following. Grid setup, 9 buttons. The sizes are as follows: Button Size Small Device 80 Button Size Large Device 110 Button Margin Small Device 20 Button Margin Large Device 70 This seems to look decent as a grid on iPhone and displays well enough on iPad. On the iPad this config will display though as 2 lines of 4 then one below not in a grid of 9. Looks decent though.

Oops, I may have misread your question. It does indeed depend on the button size. I also use the following: Button Transparency 90 Button Radius Small Device 10 Button Radius Large Device 20 The button sizes are as listed above 80x80 for iPhone and 110x110 for iPad Download 'Celic' from Appstore and you'll see, don't worry it's a free app for friends in the old country. It'll be updated soon with push notifications for scores and gamecenter when I add more quiz questions. This was my first wee app as I knew Celtic fans (Glasgow, not Boston and local dialect we sometimes drop the second 't' Too much info? I'll stop) would appreciate links and photo sharing. I really got excited about BT with one, so many ripoffs in App Store charging fans for links to sites. It regularly jumps up into the top 30 in iTunes UK for Sports apps inspite of my amateur skills.

MacApple, Thanks for the reply. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I have a button with size 80, as you've said. I have a jpg image which I made into 80 pixels by 80 pixels in photoshop. Yet in the iphone simulator the photo is cropped. I only see a portion of it, as if it were a much bigger image and the button just shows part of it. Yet it is, according to photoshop, the same size as the button. Any ideas? Thanks Steve

No problem, just pulled up the app to double check for you, good stuff! Knew I came across this once.
