No not really. You could see about using a Mac remotely where xcode is installed, but you'd have to see whether the over the air testing would allow you to get your app onto a real device for testing. You could test on the iPad/iPhone simulator on the remote Mac, but at some point you probably want to test on a real device too.

Hi @Housecoat, Welcome to Buzztouch! Check this document out...it outlines everything you need to get started : http://www.buzztouch.com/resources/Things_You_Need_Before_You_Start_Developing_Apps_v1.0.pdf In short, you'll need an Intel-based Mac in order to do iOS applications, as Xcode is required to compile your programs, and it only works on Mac. Some people will say you can install Mac OS X in VMware or something, but I've not heard good report about that. Best to stick with a Mac, and you can get a cheap Mac mini from Craigslist. Also...would advise you to sign up for v1.5 Early Adopter from your My Account tab. Many more features than v1.4! Again, welcome! Mark

@Fred, if others has tried only to give up, a complete green beginner as me who fort has to learn all the terms from scratch proberly dont have much of a chance..I guess.. @GoNotrhWest, thank you so much, i just skimmed the info, proberly I must go to this craigslist and figure out what a mac-mini is(?) and sign up for v1.5, ok! :) @rgtichly, i have an ipad - but i would not be able to work xcode from this, correct? Is it true, in my understanding this: 1) there is much more sales in mac-apps than there is in android-apps? 2) that a mac-app can only run on ipod & ipad, eg. not on a not-mac telephone or pad? Thanks :)

Hi @Housecoat, A Mac mini is the smallest, least inexpensive Mac you can get. I was able to get mine for $200 on Craigslist. Just make sure it's an Intel-based processor one, and not the older PPC-based ones. The standard hard drive and memory configs should work fine for you. Unfortunately, you cannot run Xcode on an iPad. But, you can test your apps there! Apple is making a billion (literally!) dollars a week on app sales. I would be amazed if Android was anywhere close to that. There are more Android devices out there, but I think Apple should be your first focus. The apps you create at Buzztouch can run on an iPad, iTouch and iPhone. But they cannot run as Mac OS apps (like on an Air book or something). Mark

@GoNorthWest. Thanks this is really helpful info! I am in Scandinavia, so I will try to find a mac-mini over here. I guess that this mini-computer will be compatible with my already existing screen and keyboard. This is a lot of dollars per week, billion..Wow.. Do you have any idea how much a start-up app-designer would sell, in pieces, the first year for an average app.., say 100xsalesx99cents ? I mean, there is so many apps already on this market, of all kinds, right? I think I would go for the kids-arena, and proberly also in my own language..

Hi, I was able to use my existing PC monitor and keyboard with my Mac mini. I also currently have it headless, and use LogMeIn to access it remtotely. If you can't find one in Scandanavia, look in the US, and perhaps somebody would arrange to ship it to you! Don't forget that in order to sell your apps on iTunes, which is the only way to sell then, you have to pay $99/yr to join the Apple Developer Program. I have three apps in the store, one of which costs (99 cents), and I have sold 140 of them so far, so I've just about made my yearly fee back. And it's a very niche app! I'm sure you can find one in your language in a category that will blow the roof off sales! Mark

As to which platform is more profitable that depends on your app and on the market. There's pros and cons either way. If you wish to deploy an app quickly, Android is the choice. If most of your market (users) is Android, well . . . If you already have an Android device and a windows computer . . . If you . . . I've found that there's a need to be able to build for both platforms (WINDOWS mobile?) because the market is not just One. If I have a cool app than I wish to display, way too often I hear, Will it work with iOS? So to have a truly successfull Android app I'm going to need a companion iOS app. But we all start at different points, so your path will be different from mine. Fred

@GoNorthWest. Great that it would work with the devices I already have :) Im already getting ticks over the high prices i find here..But on ebay i find many more reasonable priced, think i will go for one of those! That sound great with you sales, and that it perfectly makes back the fee, I'd like to buy one of your apps to experience/see what you have made, can i?? Right now I am looking at rights for older fairytales, maybe it is possible to borrow those works and add my own drawings to the stories, does anyone know if the BuzzTouch v1.5 will be able to make me an app that goes direct into ibooks so it can be read from there? @Fred Thanks Fred, i dont actually know what my target audience is using, yet. I personally work on pc, and play with my ipad - so I am a mix. Mommys & small kids could be using both too. I think maybe my audience are more likely to use ipad and macbook, if I should take a wild guess at it.. I dont even know what android is, but i guess that is is more for android telephone, and not for pad, right? I just hope and pray I will be able to put all the technical part together in a working app, with my very small skills in tech-stuff.. That will be a greater accomplishment than coming op with a great idea.. I think :)

Android tablets sort of like an ipad only better & cheaper. I have access to an ipad which has some nice features, but once your familiar with Android features you'll find an ipad restricting. Fred

Thanks Fred, i must buy one and check it out.. Surely you're right. I only know ipad, and I find it lovely for internet and app features.. Does anyone know if it is possible to see how many times an app is downloaded, in i-tunes or in the app-store? It would be great to see as reference to how interesting to the public diff sorts of apps are..?!

If you use an Android device you'll see that info. Great for researching apps. But that's only one of various Android markets. Fred

Hey @Housecoat, Well, as you can see from my apps, I have some technical skills, but little to no graphics skills! Perhaps we can barter some work, and help each other out? I'm looking for assistance in sprucing up the home screen for my fishing app. Mark
