MediaRSS

Mobile OS: iOS and Android Comp OS: Windows 7 Platform: Buzztouch 1.4 Status: In development For me, the RSS reader is not able to play mp3's from my RSS xml. Is there a solution for this? Is this option available in v1.5? The list populates properly, but when I click on the link, it takes me to the Buzztouch website with my mp3 appended. Thanks

I ran a podcast feed into my App. Flash player needed shows up and then Download Episode. Downloaded Episode and it played. I would add a link to your MP3 thta says: Play. Scott

Thanks, but I'm not exactly sure what you mean by adding a link to my mp3 that says play.

In your podcast description, I would add a link that says Play then in the App when people tap that episode they will have something other than text and a download link - which they might not realize will play the MP3.

It sounds to me like you need a landing page for the RSS link, because I assume what you're explaining to us is that when a user taps the RSS item, the RSS module tries to load a webpage. And, in your case, the webpage happens to be a filename that ends in .mp3 but the media player doesn't immediately pick it up from there and play the file. You need some additional code on a landing page to direct the file into the media player... Is that a good description of the situation?

That's exactly correct. If I link directly to the mp3, it will open in a browser, then download, then will play. Something gets lost in translation when I do the same with the RSS feed. I'm gathering that I'll have to add something to my RSS feed.

The MP3 file is enclosed in the RSS Feed. what I see on mine is a list of posts. I click on one and I see the text of the post. At teh end of the post is a download link for the MP3 file. The player is flash so it doesn't work. So what I do is add in my text a 'click here to play' link to the MP3 file. Would be nice if Buzztouch had a podcast rss feed plugin, but they don't as yet. So that's how I work around it. Since I own th ePodcast platform, I will be getting my programmers to use an HTML5 player instead of the flash one. And have it at the top of the post.

Ah, I got it. I actually worked around it by using a custom URL page instead and pointing it to rssinclude.com. That was suggested elsewhere in this forum.

If you really want to avoid having a page open for the RSS Item when selected, you might look at the code in BT_screen_webview.m (in Xcode); there seems to be handling in there for the xls, doc, pdf, htm, txt document types; alternately, you could look at BT_RSS_reader.m and identify the link as an mp3 before the call to the webview screen, and divert sound and video links to a media player instead of the webview

I haven't made it over to the iPhone side of things yet. I have looked in the Android source and nothing struck me.
